“I didn’t want my friends to know that my mom’s a naked jungle woman eating tarantulas,” he says today.

David’s mother, Yarima, is a member of the Yanomami tribe of Venezuela.

In 1978, he (David's Father) was offered Yarima, who was then about 9 to 12. Good was 36. He saw no real problem.

After David was born, Kenneth attempted to settle Yarima into modern American domesticity.

In 1991, The whole family would return to the Amazon for a documentary. While there, Yarima told Kenneth she would not be going back to America.

The headline is misleading. She wasn’t lost: they knew where she was all along.

Oui.

My library had a facsimile printing of Gaugin’s journal/sketchbook. He used almost the same words as Kenneth in this article, about their “cultural age,” a 12-year-old in Tahiti is as mature as a 20-year-old in France, and all that.

It was a little less hypocritical at that time, I guess, since marriage for girls in their mid-teens wasn’t out of the ordinary in France.

Interesting. I remember reading about this couple long ago, probably back in the 1980s. So this is how it turned out.

People seem to be grossed out over eating tarantulas, but how is that so different than other foods we eat.

Actually, just about anything can be eaten if it is deep-fried.

This is a natural for the Maury Povich TV show, based on the adverts I’ve seen..

Those are their cultural beliefs. People in first world countries ruin their bodies because it’s the cool thing to do.

Unbelievable! I am always amazed to see the total disregard parents can have for the well-bing of their children. I’ll give the female a pass over the male here, based on her horrible culture. What was Kenneth thinking in having children with this woman?

The woman was gang-raped by 20 or 30 men in the tribe because they figured her husband would not be back to protect her? Nice set of standards there. Gee, I can see why her son would want to belong to such a charming group.
