Your dead kids don't trump my constitutional rights': Right-wing icon Joe the Plumber...
Daily Mail ^ | 5/26/14 | DAVID MARTOSKO

...writes outrageous open letter to families of UCSB shooting victims

Political mascot-turned-gun-advocate Samuel 'Joe the Plumber' Wurzelbacher wrote an open letter to grieving parents who lost their children to mass-murderer Elliot Rodger 'As harsh as this sounds,' he insisted on a conservative blog, 'your dead kids don't trump my Constitutional rights' to own guns Wurzelbacher was responding to Richard Martinez, who blamed his son's death on the NRA and 'craven, irresponsible politicians' He became a GOP sensation in 2008 when candidate Barack Obama told him at a campaign event that 'when you spread the wealth around' with taxes, 'it's good for everybody' The crass letter, he wrote, wasn't directed at the parents of Rodger's stabbing victims

A former Republican congressional candidate who owes his mini-stardom to a chance encounter with Barack Obama during his first presidential campaign wrote in an open letter to shooting victims' families that their grief can't override the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. I am sorry you lost your child, wrote Samuel Wurzelbacher, known in conservative circles as Joe the Plumber. 'I myself have a son and daughter and the one thing I never want to go through, is what you are going through now.' 'But: As harsh as this sounds – your dead kids don't trump my Constitutional rights.' His harsh words came a day after Richard Martinez, whose so Christopher was gunned down Friday night by mass-killer Elliot Rodger, blamed the National Rifle Association and 'craven, irresponsible politicians' for his son's death.

>> Ummmm - the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is NOT a constitutional right.

It’s a right the “Bill of Rights” declares shall not be infringed.

Can you elaborate on your objection?

My oldest daughter had her CCW before I did. I’ve been carrying since I left MPDC in 1974, but finally got around to making it legal around 10 years ago.

Figured as much. But hopefully we’ll still be treated to interesting explanation.

He was spot on and no need for apologies. Anyone who was offended by his comments can kiss my azz.

Every law we have for the most part is in reaction to something that happens without the long term ramifications of that over reaction.

You have a majority of people blaming everything that happens on someone or something else instead of taking responsibility.

People forget that those who kill in such a horrible way such as in this recent killing are possesed or controled by demons and NO amount of gun control would have prevented such EVIL.

I never said the rights were GRANTED by the Constitution - but they are certainly Constitutional rights, since they are GUARANTEED by the Constitution...

Don’t get snarky just because you can’t communicate your point clearly. What you said was just plain wrong. If you meant to say that the right was not granted by the Constitution, just say so. But to say that it is not a Constitutional right is factually incorrect. Saying it is a Constitutional right does not speak to the source of the right, but to the fact that the right is acknowledged and protected by the Constitution.

If the fact that these rights are natural rights is sufficient to protect them from the intrusion of government, why did the Founders think it necessary to include them in the Constitution at all? There are examples of governments all around the globe trampling all over these natural rights. The place where these natural right are best preserved is here in the USA - where they are also Constitutional rights.

This is why I ceased being a Constitutionalist, and became a Declarationist.

See, they can lie about the Constitution all day, and snow people into believing that the Constitution "grants" you Rights. The Declaration TELLS you where the Rights came from, as FReeper publius911 writes:

Really?

"...are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights..."

Not by the Supreme Court, and certainly not by the Founding Fathers (why would they sign that offensive 'declaration thing' document otherwise? Got unalienable?)

=============

The tyrants can outlaw guns, they can pass hundreds of laws against guns, but still We Got A Natural Right to guns.

It's interesting that the "right to vote" doesn't seem to be a Natural Right...

BTW, Gene Eric & wardaddy - the "intellectual wordsmithing" is how the Royal Purple Party (Washington DC Reds & Blues) are running the "Constitution con" on many of the conservatives.

Half of Roger’s victims were stabbed to death yet no one is clamoring for knife control.

Even the parents of one of the knifing victims is calling for GUN control.

Crusading father whose son was shot dead by 'virgin killer' brings 20,000 mourning students to their feet with emotional 'Not One More' speech at campus vigil (Daily Mail Published: 21:01 EST, 27 May 2014 | Updated: 01:00 EST, 28 May 2014)

Mr Martinez told the crowd he should not be seen as a spokesman for all the families caught up in the stabbings and shootings.

But he was asked by the families of Cheng Yuan Hong and Weihan 'David' Wang, to give statements on their behalf.

As he held a Gone With The Wind book bag aloft, Mr Martinez read a statement from the Hong family, which said: 'May we together create a peaceful world and let hatred be gone with the wind.'

The family of 20-year-old Wang have also called for tighter gun control.

In their statement read by Mr Martinez, they said: 'Our child desired a land free from fear.'

I know that Mr. Martinez is full of grief and anger right now. But his call to ban guns makes as much sense as the killer’s call to put all women into concentration camps.

BUMP

Mr. Martinez is "frustrated" and lashing out at society. Maybe someone should lock HIM up for his own good. Or at least he should seek some counseling and therapy.

The parents of the knife/SUV/gun killer have ALSO called for tougher gun laws now.

They keep referring to the roommates as being stabbing victims. I heard where the were hammered and then finished off with a machete.

” hammered and then finished off with a machete “

That’s up close and personal.

So’s the running over someone by the lunatic, in his BMW. Hard to think about the hate that would do that.

The guy was loco.
