IRWINDALE >> Srirachas spicy relationship with the City Council cooled off a bit Wednesday after officials unanimously dismissed a lawsuit and public nuisance declaration against manufacturer Huy Fong Foods.
The standoff between the city and Sriracha creator David Tran began in October when the city filed a lawsuit against his iconic company. The battle sparked fears among Sriracha fans there would be a global shortage of the popular condiment and its bottle with the tell-tale green cap.
An informal meeting Tuesday between Tran and city officials, accompanied by a written statement from Tran, provided the council the assurance it needed that Huy Fong will address residents odor complaints.
We forged a relationship. Lets keep that going, City Councilman Julian Miranda said Wednesday.
Resident Fred Barbosa thanked the council for negotiating instead of litigating.
Thank you so much for saving Irwindale because we were headed in the wrong direction, Barbosa said.
Bob Machuca, of the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corp., said the resolution showed California is open for business.

I hope they still move to Texas.
You can’t have em’ I guess.
LOL
Probably does suck to live next to a hot sauce plant.
Work Harder and move.
Nonsense. If Tran wanted to make more money, he would move out of California. All this shows is Irwindale saw the light and want his tax revenue—they suddenly don't mind a little capsaicin in the air.
Yes, that’s right.... Next?
I live in CA. and I hope this man moves his business to Texas, he will
be much better off doing business in Texas!!!!! THIS STATE SUCKS!!!!
I suspect that they finished negotiating a payoff.
If I were them, I’d quietly continue working on relocating to Texas over the next 2-4 years. Get the plants growing properly and my ducks in a row.
He should still get the hell out of California ASAP. It’s only a matter of time before local, county or state government are back demanding higher pay-offs or imposing ruinous regulations.
California is a lost cause.
They like to call it “forging a relationship.”
The executives are more than likely already finalizing an exit strategy. This deal will keep the doors open until THEY chose to close them.
To successfully pull up stakes Huy Fong would need to get the Texas Plant up and running before shutting down in Irwindale. I believe Huy Fong is running tight with Inventory due to a newish Kalifornia regulation (imagine that in Kalifornia) which now requires that their Sriracha sit in a Warehouse for a couple of months after being bottled. It was big news in Southern Kalifornia last year when this was announced, Asian restaurants were in a panic about possible supple issues.
Smile, make the appropriate noises - then move anyway. The city has already demonstrated what it will do when it feels like screwing him, why wait around for it to change its mind again.
