Is China being stupid? Or is it being really clever? That in a nutshell is the foreign policy debate over Beijing’s seemingly concerted effort to provoke its neighbours. The case that China is being stupid is easy to make. In recent weeks Beijing has picked simultaneous fights with Vietnam, the Philippines and Japan. It moved an oil rig near Chinese-controlled islands claimed by Hanoi, triggering anti-Chinese riots in Vietnam in which four people died. This week a Chinese fishing boat, part of a large flotilla around the rig, was accused of sinking a Vietnamese fishing boat.

China continues to grow, now the second-largest economy in the world, and increasingly aggressive.

America needs to bring back industry, to America.

Just part of the Obama and Clinton legacy.

Don’t blame it all on Clinton/Obama. GH Bush let China in the WTO, especially right after all the turmoil when the other communist countries around the world fell. China cracked down on dissent and Bush let them in the WTO.

Simple answer: China knows it has a limited amount of time until the current fool is out of office. They’re getting the goods while the getting is good.

Same with Russia, Iran, etc.

I tend to more agree with the post previous to yours.

Bush was every bit, as anti-American business as Obama.

Nobody in either party, is firmly looking out for the USA.

This is becoming a massive problem. Bring back American industry.

China is flexing its muscles in the full knowledge that none of its smaller neighbors can resist and that the US won’t interfere.

It is asserting hegemony over its Asian neighbors.
