Dozens of bicycles stolen from city bike-share program
The Baltimore Sun ^ | 5/30/14 | By Carrie Wells

Posted on 05/30/2014 12:32:39 PM PDT by BBell

More than 40 bicycles belonging to Baltimore's Recreation and Parks department for a bike-share program were stolen this week, and the activity has been suspended indefinitely, city officials said.

The bikes, which included children's bikes and adult-size blue beach cruisers, were stolen on Monday during the city's Ride Around the Reservoir program in Druid Hill Park. Recreation and Parks spokeswoman Gwendolyn Chambers said staff had set up the bikes to lend out when a large group of youths began stealing them. One staffer was kicked by a youth, though the injury was not serious, Chambers said.

"We don't want our staff in harm's way so we don't engage in fights with them," Chambers said.

Under the Ride Around program, which began in 2006 and expanded from one day a week to four days a week, people can borrow the bikes and helmets and ride through Druid Hill Park. Similar programs also operate in Carroll Park, Lake Montebello and at City Hall for employees during lunchtime. The program is also part of the city's Camp Baltimore summer camp. All of those programs, which serve about 3,000 people each summer, will be affected by the loss of the bikes, Chambers said.

I’m sorry to write this, even sorrier to believe it (but I absolutely do) but....
Baltimore.....stealing other’s possessions....

Look in the black neighborhoods.

I don’t mean that white kids never steal, I mean that Baltimore is made up of feral blacks.

could we have better descriptions of the criminals? For example, were they boys and young men, any females? how tall , what race/ethnicity, what were they wearing, any other distinctive features such as tattoos? Any hate speech words uttered? Any distinctive accents in the speech of the criminals? Did they load bikes in a truck and drive away, or were there so many criminals that each got his own bike and rode away? Which direction were they headed?

Just so much off the top of my head, questions about this incident which the news reports aren’t telling us.

Officials said the bikes can also be dropped off at any city recreation center or at Recreation and Parks headquarters at 2600 Madison Ave. with no questions asked.

So you steal something, assault someone, but hey that’s okay just drop the bike off and all is forgiven.....

Well well well. Create a permanent underclass that is convinced that it is owed a living for years of oppression, and this is what you get.

This doesn’t happen with responsible, civilized people.

They are getting wantonly brazen, aren't they?

One staffer was kicked by a youth, though the injury was not serious, Chambers said.

"We don't want our staff in harm's way so we don't engage in fights with them," Chambers said.

Which feeds into how brazen they are! You are weakling cowards, and they will not only steal, but kick you for the fun of it!

You're going to get hurt anyway, might as well fight back! And go down in a blaze of glory! Rather than a craven coward with a broken arm or a bullet through the head.

The city is asking for the public's help to recover the bikes, and residents are asked to call 911 if they spot one of them. Officials said the bikes can also be dropped off at any city recreation center or at Recreation and Parks headquarters at 2600 Madison Ave. with no questions asked.

Again, more sign that you are a weakling coward!

FR talks about firearm issues all the time, but it really is more of a courage and propriety issue regardless of weaponry. You can use your fists alone, and scare the scum and get respect, and clean up the city. But the scum know the police and everyone else tell the good citizens "don't ever fight back", and will obey and thus scum do anything they want.

Things have regressed to the point in Amerika that we actually do not need better descriptions.
We know who the perps are; we know who the next set of perps are going to be.

The only way to stop this is to do this with cars. I’m just sure that no one would steal those.
The sad part is that someone worked hard to earn the pay that was given to Baltimore as taxes so they could just piss the money away.

You rote: “I just hope they were $650 fancy bikes instead of $59 WalMart specials.”

A $650 bike is a cheap piece of trash that no self respecting bicyclist would be caught dead on. My cheapest (of 6) bikes is about $1000.00 but they probably average about $4500

No real commuter would EVER use one of these bike share bikes. The are poorly maintained, they don’t fit right, they are not setup right, they are heavy, they are improperly geared. Cyclist look at these things as jokes.

If it isn’t Campagnolo equipped it isn’t worth riding

Maryland is THE Freak state. This sort of "program" is typical of soft-headed LIBs who enjoy throwing taxpayer money down "black holes". What a vapid response by the city. These limp-wristed, flaccid, feckless LIBs will have their asses handed to them in many, many ways before total collapse of the city. My advice to residents: Leave while you still are allowed to do so. It IS hopeless.
