'The Shack' mania heads to big screen (Oprah to play the part of God!)

“It’s going to be interesting to see how people react to the movie – especially considering the fact that Winfrey is most likely playing the role of God. “‘The Shack’ goes to the heart of universal reconciliation, Christian universalism.” It created shock waves among many Christians not only for its theology but also for its portrayal of the Trinity as an elderly black woman, an Asian woman and a carpenter.

Universalism is the belief that a God of love and goodness never would allow people to be separated from him forever, which means everyone ends up in heaven.

Barack Obama has said in an interview that he does not believe that Jesus is the only way to salvation and his grandmama was a Unitarian.

“Jesus *said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.”

From what I’ve heard, the UCC denomination(of which Jeremiah Wright’s congregation is a part of) is about as close to Unitarian as any non-Unitarian denomination can get.

Oprah as God wants to make sure that "everyone ends up in heaven" -- some of us way ahead of others. Way ahead. Like immediately.

"There are still generations of older people who were born and breed and marinated in that prejudice and racism and they just have to die."

I read the book and did some checking on the author’s background. No matter how I tried, I couldn’t come up with anything other than CULT. I thought his theology was very close to Herbert W. Armstrong’s stuff.

Sad thing is, Sandy Cove Bible Conference Center in Maryland, and Billy Graham’s Bible Conference Center, “THE COVE” in North Carolina had him for Bible conferences approximately 2 years ago.

As my late mentor used to say, “Tommy, the most dangerous counterfeit is the one that looks the closest to the genuine article.”

I was given this book by a friend, a woman who I consider to be a true Christian, meaning I see her as a sinner like the rest of us who is sincerely trying to be a follower of Christ.

I couldn’t figure out why she liked this book.

Among other theological issues, the author denies substitutionary atonement. Christians should witness to him, not invite him to conferences.

The Shack is a creepy book. I threw it in the trash after reading only a few pages.

Jeremiah Wright is a former muslim and both Barry O. and Opreah were members of his congregation for many years.

Oprah was a member of Wright's congregation -- but for only a brief period. Reportedly, she recognized the danger he represented to her public persona -- and moved to another church.

Which leaves one wondering why aspiring politician Barry didn't recognize the risk, as well.

My wife was reading this book, and raved about it. One night, I read it, and while it’s a nice story, it has no basis in Christianity.

I’m hoping she realizes that, but we haven’t sat down to discuss it.
