Pork Network ^ | 6-1-14 | Unattributed

Nearly 20,000 pork producers and related professionals from 32 countries will attend World Pork Expo, June 4-6, at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines, Iowa. Presented by the National Pork Producers Council (NPPC), Expo features the world’s largest pork-specific trade show with some 375 commercial exhibits in more than 310,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor exhibit space.

“World Pork Expo is a showcase of pork production; it’s where producers get together and share ideas,” says Howard Hill, NPPC president and Iowa pork producer. “It offers a great opportunity for pork producers to get a crash course in what’s new.”

The trade show will display the latest products, services and technologies available to pork producers from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 4, and Thursday, June 5, as well as from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, June 7. The Agriculture Building will mark its second year of exhibits, featuring the America’s Best Genetics display and the International Visitors Center.

Is there a line on over/under on the number of racks of ribs served or the number of pulled pork sandwiches consumed?

Now play the musical call of the muezzins and attract muslimes so you can feed them pork. Tell them it is goat that is OK for eating, but unclean for ..., well, other purposes.

The trade show will have a statue of a Muslim made from pork, bacon wrapped Twinkies and Bacon ice cream...

The best place to be.... no Muslims will be there...

The right kind of diversity our nation needs!
By the way if you are in Des Moines; Woodies near Drake has the best barbeque in the metro.

Woody’s is great. Smokey D’s is up there too. Claxon’s isn’t quite as good, but it is also very, very tasty and run by very good folks.

Any new recipes for bacon?

All seriousness aside...

I went thru the drive thru at Bojangles yesterday, ordered a bacon, egg, cheese biscuit combo. Didn’t open it until I got home. No bacon on my biscuit. Lots of egg, lots of cheese. But no bacon.

Being the forgiving sort, we hit Bojangles on the way home from church today. Drive thru again. I told the lady at the window I was shorted on my bacon yesterday...she gave me a side order of bacon to go along with our meal. I put it on the sausage, egg, cheese biscuit I’d ordered. I was happy as a pig in mud.

Also on Thursday, NPPC, Hog Slat and Vinny’s BBQ will collaborate to set another record for the world’s largest pork burger (previously set at the 2012 World Pork Expo). Expo-goers can watch the assembly of this mammoth burger at 5 p.m. and try a sample. A significant portion of the burger will be donated to Youth Emergency Services & Shelter in Des Moines.

No. But if they want some real pork experts to show up, they need to invite some DC politicians!

Wish I could be there for the festivities, love pork in its every form. I even worked on a hog farm as a teenager in the days before CAFO.

This is a a producer’s show. Confinement and transportation equipment, medications and diet supplements, lots of artificial insemination information, etc. A non-farmer wouldn’t find much interesting, and it’s overwhelmingly middle-aged white guys to boot.

“World Pork Expo opens Wednesday”

I thought that the Democrat Convention only took place in presidential election years?
