Oh I know but some communities try to hide it more than others. The Amish are one such.

I at first thought that's who it was. Show might be idiotic but I found it interesting at times. Liked the Amish gal who could manipulate Levi.

Wow... actually Amish? Well, let it not blight your view of them. Compared to the rest of societies rape rate, the Amish are some of the safest.

Actually that should be “If only they could marry someone other than their first cousin and not become inbreeds”.

Seriously. It’s incestuous and you come up with retards.

Don't put these people on a pedestal they have the same sickness as our society. Only thing is when one of their men do it they rally behind the rapist not the victim. Shame on them.

But that was also OK under OT law: cousin marriage. Boaz was considered suitable to marry Ruth precisely because he was near kin.

Not denying, BTW, that kindred marriage can magnify the EXPRESSION OF recessive gene defects. Consider hemophilia, and Tay-Sachs.

Ruth wasn’t related to Boaz, her mother-in-law Naomi was.

But anyway, you are right about birth defects in small tight communities. We see and hear of them in the Mennonite groups here, too.

you may want more than two cases to make a point with any force.... especially since i can probably find two cases of rape outside the Amish community conducted in the last couple of days, without going back to 2007

I do remember a case on Dateline? The girls left the community but not before getting their rapists busted. It was not hard for police to bust then since Amish boys won’t lie. Still the community supported the rapists in court and cried for them and not the girls who left. I saw this about what? 15 years ago? Hard to say. I just remember the girls were told they were “unforgiving”. BS. More like the community is into “coverup”.

Oh! Oh! That’s right. But Naomi said, “That man is *our* close relative; he is one of *our* guardian-redeemers” (They didn’t make a distinction, sometimes, between related by blood or related by marriage.) But Boaz still had to give some other guy first dibs on Ruth because thothe guy was more closely related (Ruth 3:12).

Cousins have the same grandfather. When grandpa dies, both cousins (married to each other) would be full joint heirs. Cousin-marriage is considered ideal by some landholding people because it keeps the property in the family.

Yeah, and genetic complications occur. Especially when the “pool” of people you’re eligible to marry, is small: as when religious subgroups form with only a small number of families. This sometimes occur amongst the Amish and Mennonites when a group with their “bishop” splits from the rest of the church, and the bishop wants them not to marry outside the group.

They are much more aware of it now, and are more apt to pore over genealogies or even agree to DNA analysis before deciding whether a particular marriage match-up is suitable.
