Years before we were hanging around Dullis IAP in the late evening letting our daughter watch the planes come and go when an announcement came over the PA:

“Mr. Khomeini, Mr. Ayatollah Khomeini, please meet your kamakazi pilot at the end of the runway for immediate departure.”

Everyone around us laughed.

I remember seeing the grief riots in Teheran on TV & Khomeini’s carcass nearly falling out of the coffin.

Look it up on youtube. Still fun to watch.

And A.K.’s still burning in h***. The souls of those boys he used for human mine detonaters are laughing now.

I was on the way to Beijing for language studies as a new Ensign. Was stopped in Hong Kong by the asst naval attache after getting off the plane.

He said, “Your not going any further, we don’t have time to deal with you. Don’t bother coming to the Consulate. Your to meet your fellow JOs as they come off the plane and ensure they get the drill. Do whatever you want till it’s time for you to leave. I don’t want to hear your name again before your return to the states. Understood?”

Two word reply: “Yes, Sir!”

3 months advance pay and 30 days in Hong Kong - couldn’t beat that. But watching everything from the local Hong Kong viewpoint and everyone knowing that the British were turning over in less than 10 years was a unique experience.
