DETROIT, MI -- While the city has seen some significant improvement in crime statistics of late, it could be a while before Detroit sheds its reputation as one of the nation's most dangerous places.
But in at least one national safety ranking, Detroit tops the list in a positive way.
Based on six categories of weather statistics from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, an analysis by insurance shopping network Homeownersinsurance.com on Monday named the nation's top cities safest from natural disasters.
Detroit was ranked No. 1, ahead of Charlotte, N.C., San Francisco, Denver and Boston.
"Detroit came out way ahead in all of our criteria, with only 3 major disaster declarations and four total declarations from the Federal Emergency Management Agency during the last 10 years," the website's analysts found. "Detroits position on Lake Huron regulates extreme weather patterns and also subjects it to colder temperatures.
"... Detroit residents may have several concerns, but natural disasters dont top the list!"
Got a laugh out of that one.
But #1 for political disasters...
Nothing much left in Detroit to burn, or collapse..
Democrat rule is always a disaster. Just look at the cities of this country.
You’re also very safe from nukes since nobody would waste an ounce of fissile material on the place
SAN FRANCISCO is the #3 SAFEST CITY from natural disasters?
My BS detector is lying on the desk screaming at me over that one.
Somebody must have missed the San Fransisco earthquakes and fire.
Not that a natural disaster could ever top the damage from the man-made disaster that is Detroit’s city government.
Not to mention a significant portion of SF is built on landfill.
Looks like San Fransisco’s saving grace is the mild weather.
The whole state is protected by the great lakes to some extent.
Yeah, it’s those man-made contingencies that can get one killed in Detroit.
I would argue that a complete takeover by Democrats is a worse “Natural Disaster” than any of the ones mentioned in this article.
Without qualification that makes complete sense in the inverted world of the Left.
Democrats have done more damage to Detroit than any natural disaster could.
There are good things going on in Detroit that are a direct result of Republicans having control of the state. The murder rate is way down as a result of the republicans appointing a good police chief and making the state an open carry state with Detroit being an open carry city as a result.
Lots of private money going into the city too. Roger Penske has almost single handedly saved the Detroit Grand Prix and even expanded it to a double with the top IndyCar series running a race on Saturday and Sunday. I would have liked to have gone to watch the Stadium Super Truck Series which raced on Friday (free admission that day).
i think this confirms democrats are not classified as “natural” disasters.
I said this. Not too long ago.
Car/deer accidents don’t help our auto insurance rates much though.
There have been something like 15 justifiable homicides this year so far but I don’t know if they’re included.
True enough. But I can tell you i live on the lake (less than 100 yards from my front door) and I can also say the weather we get up here will vary signifigantly from what Detroit gets. For example: the weekend after thanksgiving, 2000. Detroit got a dusting of snow. Port Huron and points north got 17 inches over 6 hours. I will quite often listen to the Canadian weather forecast due to the fact that it’s more accurate to my area than the Detroit forecast. So I’ll agree with your assessment- up to a point.
