What a great story! Thanks for sharing it.

Part of my fascination with WWII is how it reverberates to this day in so many ways. For me, also, it determined how my parents met.

I just reviewed the thread and realized I may have created a false impression.

My father did not meet a nice girl in New Guinea and return after the war to marry her.
