The cities with the worst traffic in North America
UK Daily Mail ^ | June 6, 2014 | Chris Pleasance

Sitting in traffic is not only a nuisance, it raises stress levels, causes us to breathe in harmful smog and makes us late for work. And, according to a new survey, the problem is only getting worse with almost every one of America's most clogged cities having more traffic in 2013 compared with 2012. It is perhaps no surprise to find that Los Angeles is still the most congested city in the U.S. For every hour travelled during rush hour, a whopping 39 minutes will be spent in traffic.

“Who can introduce roundabouts and timed traffic lights to Gulf Coast Florida?

The roundabout also serves a Darwinian purpose in that it would remove the inept from the road.”

BOL: Try a big roundabout in heavy traffic in the UK. My wife, who has an excellent sense of direction would lose it in the UK roundabouts and really got confused and would yell turn off here when we couldn’t. It got to the point I had to tell her to shut her eyes and shut up when we approached a roundabout in the UK.

On one roundabout, I listened to her and did several rounds until we escaped. Afterwards, I thought about the old Steve Martin movie where he and his family got caught in a roundabout and couldn’t get off and out of the maze. His teenage son made some comment about having enough food to get them through and out.

This is pure bunk. Houston got better? LIke hexx. Every time you get in the car it is 2 hours. I drove at 2100 hrs last night and it was no better than 0900. Three wrecks on KF between 610 and 99. 290 has become nothing but a parking lot that shifts position a little.

The 80s in houston set the proper number of people that the system could come close to supporting. It has never be good to live in houston but it was more bearable then if you were employed. It feels like the area has doubled in size since those days though.

The Point is, among other things, where the three rivers meet, where the French built Ft. Duquense which led to the French and Indian War and where Lewis & Clark launched their flatboats for their famous expedition into the newly acquired Louisiana Purchase. So it has been a site of traffic congestion for a long, long time.

LOL. You are suggesting that Lewis & Clark created the first traffic jam in Pittsburgh? It's been a traffic mess ever since.

Oh, hello no. Long before that. Blame it on the French and Indians.

The French wanted to contain westward expansion of the colonies and keep their near monopoly on the lucrative trade with the inland tribes. The British aligned Indians didn't see white immigration as that much of a threat and wanted access to more trade goods to counter the growing dominance of French aligned tribes.

There is a modern day lesson here somewhere.

My nominees would be Nashville, TN (seems you find a 14 care plie-up everywhere you go in that town) and Columbus, Ohio (eight-lane kamikaze lane changes on 270 in the morning)

Can’t believe the traffic nightmare known as Atlanta isn’t on the list.

Indeed. I'd rather drive in Los Angeles than Hotlanta.
