Yeah, but how long did it take you to figure that out? Took me about 5 seconds. It’s a good stumper, I think.

I didn’t use a stopwatch but it took me less than 10 seconds. At first I read them, thought of a pattern then realizing there wasn’t one compared the two next to it and realized the issue.

Clever test of wits

87. But it took me longer than 20 seconds to figure it out. Others may be faster.

Here is a hint: It all depends on your perspective.

Less than ten seconds - if it’s a multiple choice, the answer is obvious.
That is, if you speak Korean!

(which I don’t)

You look at it upside down. 87.

here's another stumper.

If 88987 = 7

and

09986 = 6

Then what does

75221 =?

87 - I scored an I.Q. of 161 in 1st grade based on tests just like this one - in 1966. I was always doubtful that the test really meant anything at all though. Now that we know elephants, parrots, horses, monkeys and dolphins do just as well as humans on visual puzzle solving I’m convinced it’s all a crock.

I meant to say “angle” parking...everyone knows that Asian women drivers use the “braille” method of parallel parking.

It's a clever question. The numbers are written the way the people in the car will see them.

For first grade admission it's pretty obscure.

Yeah, multiple choice would make it a snap. It is a tricky presentation, and I think most people would try “the hard way” for quite awhile before stepping out of the box. Kids are pretty good at stepping out of the box right away.

Unfortunately for me, I did immediately see a pattern, and I came up with 128. I thought it was a little advanced for first graders.
16-6 =10
68-88=-20

So logically the pattern would indicate the difference between the next two numbers should be +30. So ergo, 128.

128-98=30
