The man shot and killed by Sunnyvale Department of Safety on Thursday was brandishing a BB gun, authorities said at a news conference Friday.
Police were serving a search warrant on Gregg Griggs' Sunnyvale home Thursday morning. They say he is suspected of killing Molly Anne Franquemont, 39, who used to live with Griggs but was last seen in March 2013.
Homicide Suspect in Missing Persons Case Killed During Sunnyvale Search Four Sunnyvale DPS officers involved are now on routine paid administrative leave. Authorities said Friday Griggs was asked several times to drop his weapon before the officers opened fire "out of fear for their safety."
Capt. Jeffrey Plecque has not yet said why police believe Griggs killed Franquemont, or how she died. Her body has never been found.
The last time a Sunnyvale officer shot and killed a suspect was in August 2013.
The Sunnyvale DPS Investigation Unit is continuing its criminal investigation into the homicide case of the Franquemont case as well as Thursday's shooting.
Suicide by cop.
My husband could always hit them. The pellet is very tiny and doesn't kill or injure the birds but they DON'T like it. Now, all I have to do is APPEAR at the window with the pellet gun the the birds just fly away.
Small problem, the pellet gun is shaped like a Dirty Harry gun! The pellet gun scares ME. :o)
We also have an indigenous red tailed hawk. They eat the small rodents. NICE and magnificent birds. The crows and ravens do NOT mess with the hawk.
It's .22cal and can kill raccoons and coyotes.
Super duper rifle. With all that power behind it, no wonder it can kill. The coyotes will sent out the message to STAY AWAY from YOUR place!
My pellet gun uses O2 cartridges.
There’s a variety of pellets to use out there. I use what’s called “The Devastator” - at a hundred feet it went through two traffic cones (ours, on our property).
Also, depending on the pellet I can shoot at 1200fps.
Years ago, the Austrian Army used air rifles that proved very effective in battle.
Speaking of which, how ya’ doin’ on rabbits this year?
The nice thing about a nitro piston is you can keep it cocked and ready to shoot the vermin when they appear.
I’d like to get a bi-pod for it but don’t know how to attach it.
These days, I’m just trying to find someplace close to shoot outdoors. National Forests are kinda far from the Denver area.
I hear rabbits are thick in town, near Coors.
The Nat’l forest is about a mile from my driveway. Dang nice self service 100 yd range about 10 miles. I’m gettin’ used to this.
Really? Whereabouts is this?
