A police informant testified June 6 that Sabrina Zunich and her foster father tried to convince her to hire a hitman to have Lisa Knoefel killed.
Autumn Padlik, 19, went to school at South High School in Willoughby with Zunich, who said she ended up killing her foster mother herself on Nov. 16, 2012, after earlier plans didnt work out.
Padlik, who now lives in California with her two children and boyfriend, said Zunich repeatedly asked her to help find someone to murder Lisa.
I didnt believe her, but I said Id get the hit man, Padlik testified on the fifth day of Knoefels conspiracy trial. I was just stalling so Sabrina wouldnt kill Lisa herself.
Defense attorney Michael J. Connick asked why Padlik never told police, a school official or any trusted adult.
You may well have prevented a murder (by telling someone), right? he asked. Why didnt you just tell her no about getting a hit man? All of this could have been avoided.
Yes, Padlik said.

Wow. That is a stinking mess. I hope that they get to the bottom of all that.
I do not understand why anyone would kill his or her spouse. Just get a big
fat divorce, for goodness sakes, and don’t go on death row.
I’ve been there for part of the trial and pretrial hearings. The reason the prosecution alleges in this case for killing her rather than getting a divorce is $700,000 in insurance policies on the wife’s life.
A murderer cannot collect on an insurance policy taken out on the person he or she killed or contracted to kill.
Is that guy thinking with his small head or what?
Not only did he try to collect, but he called the insurance companies to make the claims on the day she was killed.
The stupid... It burns.
My life is not insured, but my husband’s is. However, I would rather have him than any amount of money.
