A 91-year-old woman was hospitalized after she was stung more than 100 times in a bee attack in Plantation Tuesday, officials said.
Firefighters responded to the woman's home at 1420 Campanelli Drive West around 7 p.m., officials said.
The woman was stung more than 100 times and was transported to Westside Regional Hospital, Plantation Fire Rescue officials said.
Firefighters sprayed foam on the bee hive to kill the bees, officials said.
SO sorry the elderly lady has to suffer this way. I guess those were africanized bees and not regular honeybees. With many hives dying out, there is usually some effort to move the bees to a less dangerous location.
Something like this terrifies me, because I was never tested to see if I’m allergic to stings.
With enough stings it doesn’t matter if you are allergic or not.
I live 1 mile from there.
Gotta be proactive down here in SFL. Bugs and junk can sneak up on you.
No need to spray the bees and kill them.
Just capture as many as you can, put them in a hive and Re-Queen.
Have to wonder, since it’s written by a “journalist”, and they didn’t call in a bee keper. Was it actually bees; Africanised bees; or something else entirely that also builds “hives”, flies, and stings?
wasps?
Or hornets.
