>>from watching his parents

As the country song goes, “I’ve been watchin’ you, hey ain’t that cool...”
My nephew is now 33 but I remember once hearing from my brother and sister in law that he, then a young child, had said “Daddy you’re a a—hole...” So my sister in law looked at my brother and smiled, “Well, I wonder where he got that (word) from!”

I’ve seen this video. I really cannot make it through the whole thing. The kid is VERY disrespectful. VERY screwed up. That the mother thinks it is cute, and video tapes it, IS the problem.

“Father, I am a girl and because I am a girl you really should be more sympathetic and compassionate toward me next time.”

I would take that as a warning sign...something is amiss there! (Disney Little Mermaid syndrome!)

Never treat children as equals. There is no debate. If you treat them as equals it scares them, they cannot handle it.

You might think so, but she is actually just an exceptionally bright child and she now at age 7, is not at all any sort of diva nor does she act like she is an entitled “Disney Princess”. She is very polite and very well behaved and a complete joy to her parents, her younger sisters, most of the time, and all her teachers. But she is perhaps a bit “precocious” in that she is always asking questions and isn’t afraid to engage adults in conversation and if she has a strong opinion on something, she isn’t afraid to state and make her case and I don’t necessarily see that as a bad thing.

She is very interested in American history and especially in early American history. She is a ravenous reader, reading far above her grade level, and she has since she was 4 years old, has said she wants to be President of the United States one day. Her heroes are Thomas Jefferson, Ronald Regan and Sara Palin : )

On this last Memorial Day, she told her mom that she wanted to dress in her favorite Red, White and Blue outfit and wear her US flag pin and her great-grandfather’s VFW Poppy Pin in order to “honor what the day was really all about- all the US soldiers who died”. Not many 7 year olds or adults for that matter get what Memorial Day is about.

I have no worries about her; there is nothing amiss about her IMO.

I don’t find this funny at all....My child NEVER has called me by my first name. This punk kid (and that is what he is... a 3 year old punk) is way out of line

Nothing cute or funny about this video I find it sad and pathetic

“A lot of kids at that age go through a phase of calling their mom’s and dad’s by their first names”

Don’t know what feral community you live in but calling parents by their first names is NOT usual for three year olds.....If you told me a 16 year old did it then yeah but not a three year old.

I am so sick of all of these idiot parents posting such videos of their offspring.

And I refuse to view the video and give them a hit.

I don’t nor have I ever live in a “feral community” but I’ve been around a lot of toddlers and pre-schoolers and yes, sometimes they call their parents by their first names. I don’t know where you live but I can’t believe you’ve never witnessed this yourself.

It is usually because are very young and are just learning to talk beyond a few words and they hear others refer to their mom and dad by their first names and either they get confused or just decide to try it out for themselves. In most cases, for these very little kids, no disrespect is intended but they are just doing what kids at their age do – mimic adults and test their boundaries. I would find it much more disrespectful and intentionally disrespectful for a 16 year old to call his mother by her first name than for a toddler, who didn’t know any better to do so. YMMV.

FWIW, when we moved from PA to MD, my mother was shocked that kids addressed grownups as “Miss Jane” or “Mister Joe” rather than Mrs. or Mr. Smith. But after a while she understood that this was just a “Southern thing” and it was not meant to be disrespectful.
