A Texas couple has adopted a bomb-sniffing dog that was with their Marine son when he was killed in Afghanistan.

The parents of Staff Sgt. Christopher Diaz adopted Dino after the 6-year-old Belgian malinois was discharged from active duty in an emotional ceremony at Camp Pendleton Saturday.

I lost a son two years ago and am now taking care of his dog for him. I hope that Dino’s presence is as comforting to this young man’s parents as Butch’s has been to me. Good thing he’s a big sturdy Rottweiler mix, I hug him pretty hard sometimes.

OK that brought tears to my eyes. The thing is Dino knows that two people are related to his beloved master. They can smell it. It will bring comfort to all of them.

Thank God the family of Sgt. Diaz were able to get Dino after his active days in the Marine Corps ended. This is a far better solution than to euthanize these hard working K-9’s. Dino will be loved and pampered until his days are done. He will help heal the pain of a lost son.

I know how comforting that is. When my daddy passed, I took in his little 3 lb. Chihuahua. Very sweet and lady like, unlike the stereotype for her breed. She was with me another 6 years until she passed away too at the ripe old age of 14. She was always my last connection with my Daddy. I miss both of them now, but am grateful we had each other for those six years.

Thank you for taking care of his dog. Our rescue has saved many dogs who owner passed away and no one in the family can or will take care of the dog.

Thank you for posting. The dog is beautiful. I am partial to shepherds and their kin.
The parents will have no regrets adopting this dog. None.

Today our rescue just saved a dog from a family whose owner passed away. She was rewarded by being chained to a water heater since for four years. We are checking whether she will have full use of her legs.
