PERU – A 30-year-old Peru man was shot and killed Saturday night by a rural Miami County homeowner, who told deputies the man was shot in self-defense.
Donny L. Sturgill was found dead in a residence on the 6400 block of North 400 West, near Denver, at around 10 p.m. Saturday after deputies received a call Sturgill had been shot at the house.
Miami County Sheriff Tim Miller said a preliminary investigation revealed there were signs of forced entry into the residence.
He said two people were in the home at the time of the incident. They told deputies one of them got a handgun and shot Sturgill in self-defense.
The preliminary investigation indicates there was some kind of physical altercation between the residents and Sturgill, Miller said.
Deputies are in the process of interviewing witnesses, and crime technicians with the state police are assisting with the collection of evidence at the scene, Miller said.
He said deputies continue to investigate the incident and more details will be released as the investigation progresses.
Sturgill had been arrested by deputies last year for allegedly stabbing a Denver man in the chest and face. He was arrested again in March on charges of domestic battery and criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon.

I guess this fine father figure was just turning his life around before he was sentenced for his previous charges.

Sure all great guys have that stuff in their recent (less than a year) past. Ummmm, I think we DO know all we need to know about “donny”.
