Today's feature is a classic comedy-western starring 2 conservative Republican/Roman Catholic movie legends: manly Gary Cooper and lovely Loretta Young. In this western spoof that Cooper himself produced, he spoofs his own macho he-man cowboy image as a cowpoke who doesn't know how to handle a gun. He gets mistaken for an escaped outlaw killer and the fun begins. My favorite part is 9:58-13:44.

It’s a very enjoyable western-comedy, only marred by some weak back-projection scenes and studio interiors, giving it a sometimes claustrophobic feel.

Excellent, I love The Coasters, they were fantastic. My car radio in high school only came in when I drove East or West, so my girlfriends and I had to cruise back and forth in town to listen to The Coasters and others. Probably trying to pick up Wolfman Jack’s show. Good memories!!

Thanks, have an list on old movies you like that worth looking over?

I like everything from “The Thin Man series” to most classical blockbusters. Love period pieces 1800’s and some good performed King Arther era time works. It doesn’t have to be action oriented, I can and often do like character movies. Comedies are ok, but slapstick humor and stupid lead characters don’t float my boat (hate stupid leads that make me want to shout at them to get a clue). Bob Hope may of been a great man, but I can’t sit though one of his movies. Favorite actor probable Jimmy Stewart, and any pretty faced lady.

I noticed that right away when the clouds in the background didn't move. I think movie goers in that era didn't notice that as much as we do now.

Maybe it's a view through rose-colored glasses but most of today's crop of movie stars don't hold a candle to Gary Cooper and Loretta Young and a dozen others I could name.

Agree completely. Oh, and one problem the film’s production might have had was that during WW2, with gas rationing, sometimes driving far away for a location shoot was prohibitively expensive. Films often tended to be a little backlot-bound during those years. After the war ended, the western films seem to ‘open up’ to more real, scenic backdrops (like the many Universal color westerns). If “Along Came Jones” was filmed two or three years later, it probably would have been benefited a lot.

Anyway, it’s an old favorite, nonetheless. I’ll watch a Gary Cooper or a Jimmy Stewart (or heck, even a Hoot Gibson) film before anything coming out nowadays. It’s not so much a question of acting ability as it is with appreciating the adult, no-nonsense comportment of the protagonists. Too much annoying self-consciousness, too much sarcasm, too much over-emoting blather for my tastes nowadays.

“The Wreck of the Mary Deare” with Gary Cooper(maybe not a great movie but the only time these 2 macho conservative legendary he-man appeared in the same film).

Cary Grant-
“Only Angels Have Wings” with Rita Hayworth and Jean Arthur
“Once Upon A Honeymoon” with Ginger Rogers(very underrated WWII-era comedy/adventure. Miss Rogers’ character if not stupid is at least terribly naive at first as a golddigger who marries an Austrian baron not knowing he’s a Nazi while Grant’s the reporter who rescues her from him)

Make sure you don’t read any spoilers or any thing else about it first. Vertigo is one of those films that is best watched without knowing anything about it prior to watching it the 1st time.
