Cheeseboarding

Old guy in the cell: What are you in for?

New guy in the cell: I aged cheese on wooden boards.

Old guy: Oh. (Moves away slowly.)

From Walter Olson at Overlawyered, the FDA has interpreted the Food Safety Modernization Act to preclude the aging of cheese on wood boards. Much as you may not think this touches your life, it does if you happen to enjoy any better cheese than velveeta. From CheeseUnderground:

A sense of disbelief and distress is quickly rippling through the U.S. artisan cheese community, as the federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) this week announced it will not permit American cheesemakers to age cheese on wooden boards.

And, one would presume that this also means cheeses aged in France on wood boards won’t be allowed into the country. There will be mass cheese seizures at the border, with camembert dumped into the Atlantic like bales of marijuana.

But don’t despair, cheese lovers. Monsanto-Halliburton Cheese Corporation products never touch wood. And a little recombinant bovine growth hormone (rBGH) has never been conclusively proven to harm any child.

If you were concerned that Gibson Guitars presented an unnecessary show of force when the SWAT team rolled in to seize the offending ebony fretboards, it won’t be much prettier to have the armored vehicle crash through a cheesemaker’s door.

Personally I don’t belive in Raw milk, however I think if people want to risk drinking it and they see benfit who am I to stop them.

I take the same stance on this cheese board thing, if you wanna eat it go ahead.

If you get sick, not my problem, if your child gets sick and dies, again, not my problem, your problem and you handle the consequences yourself.

Gibson and Cheeseboarding are just the beginning of the push to remove anything and everything that makes life a little nicer for the drones. Drones aren’t allowed to have anything nice.

I love Gibsons and real cheese.

How dare I?

I thought cheeseboarding was some new form of interrogation.

However, the nanny state liberals don’t feel the same.

Hate to break it to you, but this is the way most of the world has made cheese for most of history, and it's still the way it's done in most of the world.

Cheesemaking is a process of controlled spoilage. This is true no matter what kind of aging board it sits on.

Raw milk spoiled store-bought milk for me. I cannot drink anything from a store any more. Raw milk is so much better than anything else.

And it makes the ultimate in home made ice cream.

If they had their way, this would be every Cheese Shop:

Customer: It's not much of a cheese shop, is it?

Owner: Finest in the district!

Customer: Explain the logic underlying that conclusion, please.

Owner: Well, it's so clean, sir!

Customer: It's certainly uncontaminated by cheese....

I hate the food Nazi’s bitching about our food supply.

We already have one of the most safe food supplies inthe world already, and they keep creating this “food safety crisis” in order to seize more power.

Actually it has never been proved to harm anyone or anything, including the cows given it. But let's not let facts get in the way of a good smear.

Oh and by the way because of the < bleep > storm kicked up by these people rBGH is rarely if ever used any more.

Which is partly why the cost of dairy is going up and up and up.

Take it you don’t care much for cheese as this is how the majority of cheeses - anywhere - are made.

Actually i love cheese and eat a fair amount every day.

I was making a point about how even if I don;t agree with the ways of making cheese I don;t begrudge anyone’s right to eat it.

I’ve learned a lot about raw milk the last couple of years. Since moving to KY I’ve met quite a few people that are seriously into it. It caused me to do some reading.

The only way they legally “sell” it here is to sell shares in the cow. And the cool thing is that when raw milk goes bad, it doesn’t rot. It becomes cheese.

But here is the creepy part: When the FDA targets a small family dairy (I’m talking a cow or two), they will watch and wait until the husband is gone, or even both husband and wife, leaving teenagers there, and then come in, identify themselves and start asking a lot of intimidating or, conversely, seemingly harmless questions. And if they get the answers they want, charges are filed.

More and more our government looks like the SS. The nation is becoming so fascist that anyone wanting to earn a living without working for a large corporation has to constantly watch their back or jump through insurmountable legal and regulatory hoops.

It’s easier to just do the Greek thing - Cash only...

Some auto immune diseases have been linked to people growing up in a TOO STERILE environment, their immune system sits there looking for stuff to defend against and doesn;t find anythign so it attacks their own body.

Cases of Asthma are very rare rurally vs. urban.

Exactly how many people have died are have become seriously ill from cheese that was cured on a wooden board? As compared to mass produced cheese that was contaminated because it was over handled during processing?

This applies to all foods that are heavily processed. Processed foods are the reason for excessive use of preservatives, salt, and chemicals.
