Kitten nearly dies from vegan diet

A KITTEN has almost died after its owners fed it a strict vegan diet.

The horrific case at a North Melbourne animal hospital has prompted a warning about the dangers of people "forcing ideologies" on their pets.

Lort Smith Animal Hospital veterinarian Leanne Pinfold said the kitten was brought in this month by its owners, who were believed to be vegan.

She said the kitten's diet of potatoes, rice milk and pasta had caused it to become critically ill.

"It was extremely weak and collapsed when it came in. It was almost non-responsive," Dr Pinfold said.

The kitten was given fluids via a drip, placed on a heat pad and fed meat.

“Well 11 cats is suspect ya know”

Yes, maybe so, but I am not a cat lover. I did not choose to have the cats. They chose to have me !
I also have a dog. She has had a few litters. I have no problem finding homes for them.

Your cat sounds amusing! But in all my years of having cats I’ve never been able to get them to eat anything but meat, meat and more meat. If I gave any cat a potato, she would prefer to starve than to eat it. And cats will refuse to eat.

These people are idiots. Same for parents who feed babies “low fat” diets.

I remember this intense vegetarian that I met during college. He looked the part, coughing, skinny, not exactly the kind of guy you’d see dancing Chip-and-Dales (or however you spell it). But he had this really healthy (and very well-behaved), large dog, next to him. A fried of mine asked him whether the dog was a vegetarian too - the guy snarld at him and screamed: “He’s a dog, I feed him meat”.

So the guy got half of it right - thankfully the dog half.

My dogs eat lots of veggies along with their meat.

But they’re dogs and naturally omnivorous.

The brain dead vegan needs to look up the phrase “obligate canivore”. Cats HAVE TO eat meat. I hope the kitten wasn’t given back to this veggie lackwit.

If they’re at all like my dogs they’ll pass on the peas but love the carrots.

Total dumba@@es. I hope they never have a child. Would probably feed that unfortunate being according to the latest nutritional fad. You don’t get yourself a carnivorous pet and then force it to a diet for which it is not adapted. Their local judge should slap a life long ban on their owning animals on them.

from the article :

It remained in hospital for three days after which the kitten’s owners were given meat to feed their pet at home, she said.

Even the crap in the cat ‘food’ aisle is unfit for your pet...first ingredient? Corn.

...any doubt the greenfreaks are insane and dangerous to all life on earth?

The owners of this kitten should serve some jail time for animal abuse...such a sentence would serve as a bonus to normal people who wouldn't have to suffer the presence of such morons for the length of the sentence.

Vegans need a B-12 supplement which they cannot obtain through strictly non-meat edibles.

You’re right the first ingredient is corn but it does have other stuff, including taurine.

Here’s the list from Purina Cat Chow. Doesn’t look that great, but it does keep them alive. I know people who have 15-18 year old cats who have eaten nothing but this stuff.

Ingredients:
Corn meal, poultry by-product meal, corn gluten meal, soy flour, animal fat preserved with mixed-tocopherols (form of Vitamin E), powdered cellulose, animal liver flavor, soybean hulls, malt extract, calcium carbonate, phosphoric acid, salt, choline chloride, potassium chloride, taurine, zinc sulfate, Vitamin E supplement, ferrous sulfate, manganese sulfate, parsley flakes, niacin, added color (Red 40, Yellow 5, Blue 2), copper sulfate, Vitamin A supplement, calcium pantothenate, thiamine mononitrate, riboflavin supplement, Vitamin B-12 supplement, pyridoxine hydrochloride, folic acid, Vitamin D-3 supplement, calcium iodate, biotin, menadione sodium bisulfite complex (source of Vitamin K activity), sodium selenite. A vegan kitteh. This makes even Basement Cat weep.

I hope baby kitten finds a new home with a butcher, or some other person who will treat him/her to a daily Cheezeburger, and other meaty morsels,

It is just as destructive to humans. Vegan diets are extremely unhealthy.

Pray America wakes up
