While Cedar Point was closed because of a water main break over the weekend, 16 of the theme park's employees were busy getting arrested.

Police from the park and the city of Sandusky say they arrested 16 people after a melee broke out in the employee recreation center early Sunday.

Jail records say the employees were charged with aggravated rioting and disorderly conduct. At least one was also charged with assaulting a police officer. 13 of them are from Michigan; three live in Ohio.

Police responded at about 3:15 a.m. Sunday to Cedar Point Commons, which is the park employees' housing area.

The park reopened Monday after being closed Saturday and Sunday due to a water main break in the city of Sandusky.

poor Ja’Quan. Would hate to go through life with a name with an apostrophe, a name which nobody can spell or pronounce correctly. And now he has a police record.

I remember the first time I went to The Point. Around 1952. It still had that Twenties/Thirties charm about it. Times have sure changed! I liked Euclid Beach Park better though.

If you read the article you would see that the Amish have moved in from Michigan from summer jobs at the Point.

You are so right. Even without a police record, Ja’Quan is going to have trouble being called for job interviews. It's not fair, but it is reality.

There is a reason why the eastern European immigrants of old gave their American children English names. The father might have been János, but junior was named John.

They still had a lot of those when I went a couple years ago. Most of the associates are really great, IMO, and Cedar Point is the best roller-coaster park anywhere near me.

From other links:

Sandusky police arrived at the rec center to find Cedar Point officers struggling with a man and several other men trying to get at the officers.

Several other Cedar Point officers were struggling with three other men, who were swinging their arms at officers.

Another man, who refused to leave the area, then began pushing an officer.

Sandusky police called for backup and then observed three Cedar Point officers struggling with another man.

A short time later, police observed an officer struggling with three more men. One of them eventually had to be Tasered three times before he would comply with officers’ order to get on the ground.

All 16 were taken to the Erie County Jail.

Last trip to the park was three summers ago. Had a great time. Took our exchange students there and our Chinese student took her first ride on a roller coaster (we arrived on Hallowed Weekends) at 10PM. She had no idea she was being seated in a 205’ wooden roller coaster when we just walked into the ride area and told her to sit down. Silly me for having my wife sit in the seat behind her. I can only imagine the youths cleaning up after the ride was over. That was our first and LAST ride of the evening. Oh, the memories!
