This picture of a prom ticket for a Chicago High School proves that the school has a serious problem. Paul Robeson High School is in the Englewood neighborhood of Chicago and is one of the poorest and most dangerous schools in the city. See below via EAG News:
That image came from veteran investigative reporter Chuck Goudie, who posted this image on his Facebook page.
Some people might enjoy mocking the irony of the gross misuse of vocabulary.
But unless the organizers of the prom festivities planned the wording this way as a joke, theres nothing funny about the situation.
Paul Robeson High School is located in the Englewood neighborhood on Chicagos South Side, one of the poorest and most dangerous neighborhoods in the city. The high school also is part of the failing Chicago Public Schools, or CPS, system.
Four out of 10 CPS freshmen do not graduate.
If they do graduate, 91 percent have to take remediation courses in college because they do not know how to do basic math and school work. Just 26 percent of CPS high school students are college-ready, according to the ACT subject matter tests.
And who gives a rat’s behind about your story anyhow?
I see the problem. It should read, “This BE Are Story”.
My fingers sometimes type that sort of thing, but when my eyes see what they have written it gets corrected.
“This Are Story.” Ebonics drops linking verbs entirely.
I wonder if the electronic voting machine in Chicago have a picture of Obama on one side and a Klansman in his hood on the other.
Are kids is stoopit.
pretty sure i knew the difference between ‘are’ and ‘our’ by the second grade.
teachers need to be fired
The teachers' union bears no portion of the blame, I'm sure.
Will the guys at the prom be wearing their tuxes halfway down their butts?
"....by the cut of your suit, you went to Oxford or wherever. Naturally you think human beings dress like that. But you wear it with such disdain, my guess is you didn't come from money, and your school friends never let you forget it. Which means that you were at that school by the grace of someone else's charity: hence that chip on your shoulder."
-- Vesper Lynd, Casino Royale
Our rhymes with flower, while are rhymes with car. I never understood how people could confuse those.
It looks like their having a spelling problem.
Fingers skipped over the s in machines. Stupid fingers.
Exactly. And it is racist for us to think anything about whether they use “are” or “our”. We just do not understand the language of the ‘hood.
You is a graduate?
