Kathleen Willey, a Democrat activist who with her husband, Ed, founded Virginians for Clinton and helped send Bill and Hillary to the White House in 1992, is blasting Hillary Clinton’s recent claim that she and the president left the White House in 2000 dead broke.
“For her to say dead broke. … I can tell you what it is to be dead broke and owing money,” she told WND in an interview.
Hillary Clinton, who has walked back her claim, told ABC’s Diane Sawyer she and her husband “came out of the White House not only dead broke but in debt.”
“We had no money when we got there, and we struggled to piece together the resources for mortgages for the houses, for Chelsea’s education,” she said. ‘You know, it was not easy.”
The Washington Post’s Michelle Singletary, however, pointed out that since the Clintons left the White House, they have been paid more than $100 million over 14 years. And when they left the White House, not only was Bill Clinton guaranteed a vast pension, but Hillary Clinton was not far away from a salary as U.S. senator. The houses Hillary Clinton mentioned were multi-million dollar mansions.

I wish I could be broke like the Clintons.
Yes, they had millions in legal bills to pay. However, they both also had great earning capacity on the day they left the White House.
And how exactly did they buy two mansions before they left the White House, if they were dead broke???
Dead broke = multi million dollars. Hell even if they just had the $145 a year salary, I would love to be that dead broke too.
$145k salary. Even in 2014 valued dollars whch is much less than 2001.

It seems to me that the media has been tough on Hillary with her book tour.

They would have had an extra couple million on hand if Bill hadn't had to pay Paula Jones (and his own attorneys, of course) for beating and raping Jones in 1991.
I don’t know whether Hillary’s claim of being broke is accurate or not.
But I do know it’s quite possible. Bill and Hill incurred huge legal bills to defend themselves against the various investigations launched against them by their political enemies. Those ran into many millions of dollars, though some was paid by fundraising.
Now note that I’m not saying those investigations were not warranted. I’m merely pointing out that the “other side” was tapped into the bottomless well of government funds.
When the government goes after somebody, unless he is rich in the billionaire sense, it will eventually bankrupt him. All I’m saying is that this ability of those in control of government resources to investigate at government expense, while requiring the person under investigtion to provide legal defense at his own expense, is an awesome power and very prone to possible abuse.
Investigate a guy long enough, and he’s financially destroyed, at no cost to you.
BTW, I DO know what it is to be broke. I have at times sat by the phone willing it to ring, so I could get a job and buy dinner for my child.

The hard-left media, which is most of the mainstream media, definitely don't want her in the White House.
There are still the sloppy traditionalists at the NYT and Washington Post who seem to feel she deserves her four or eight years---the affirmative action idiot Eugene Robinson, premier columnist at the Post, is one example.
But the more radical Democrats, epitomized by MSNBC's Mika Brzenzki, loathe the graceless, fat-ankled old school opportunism of Hillary and Bill and will settle for nothing less than another hardcore redistributionist like Mike Malloy or especially Elizabeth Warren.
THAT is why you are seeing these ambushes by Sawyer, NPR's Terry Gross, et al.....and Mika herself has been simply frothing and clawing at Hillary for a couple weeks now on the Morning Joe show.
I remember a story - right after his presidency ended - that Bill was bragging around NYC that he had a million in his personal checking account. He enjoyed seeing his balance when he used an ATM.
So if being broke was really an issue why did they but TWO multimillion dollar houses?
