4 Spots Cats Love to Be Scratched -- and One They Hate!

Feline Love: Breaking the Code

I've spent my life caring for and about animals, and I've always been a careful observer of what makes them happy. I know the "sweet spots" on every pet I've ever met, and since Almost Heaven is a horse ranch (with Quarter Horses whose personalities rival Golden Retrievers for sweetness), I know what makes equine hearts sing too.

But I also know if you hit the wrong note on many a cat, you won't be singing a happy song for long. And while most cat owners eventually figure that out on their own, you could be one of those people whose current cat tolerates pretty much anything. Your next one, though, could be scratch-happy if you don't know where to go.

Which is why I love sharing about caring, and in cats that means sticking to four top spots for heavy petting, and ignoring one spot that dogs love but that most cats never will.

Tacky. I guess I should be glad the owner of that torso is using a cat drawn around their bellybutton vs a person.

Mine only like belly rubs when they are on all 4’s. NEVER on their backs. Sometimes my fat diva likes it...but she’s pretty insecure.

My cat loves being carried on his back, getting his belly rubbed. However, from the time I raised from a kitten, I would routinely pick up up like that and rub him there.

Believe it or not.....but I can pick my female and give her a ‘zerbert’ on her tummy. I can’t quite figure that one out.

It just depends on the cat.

Both of my girl katz love belly rubs, and Mao loves getting rubbed on her tummy with the pin brush! I think a lot depends on how you raise and bond with them.

I have 4 cats. 2 of them love belly rubs, 2 hate it. so I’m batting about .500 on this one.

My brother and sister-in-law have four cats. Three of them like ear and chin scratches. One loves to have her belly rubbed. But one doesn't like any scratches or belly rubs. All she wants is to have the top of her head rubbed.

My own cat loves ear scratches and only the occasional belly rub — only when he's in the mood. Try to rub his tummy without permission and you will be a bloody mess.

Every cat is different.

The one on the bottom is now found at most law enforcement firearm training facilities.
