In 12 years, Ramos saw the taxes on his modest 1,200-square-foot house in Queens rise from $1,400 a year to almost $4,000, and other bills climbed as well.
"The increases are insane," Ramos said. "In the wintertime, we're pushing $400 to $500 a month to keep the house warm." So off to Nalcrest, Fla.

Low cost of living and warm weather are prime draws for retirees. They tend to move from colder or high cost states such as New York, Illinois, New Jersey, Michigan and California, in search of warmer and lower cost states including Florida, Arizona, North and South Carolina and Texas. Many of the destination states also have relatively low property taxes for instance, South Carolina's median annual property tax bill is just $769, compared to more than $7,000 in New Jersey.

4,000 is cheep.....I wish mine was that low. I am getting robbed in Maryland.....My home is 2800 square foot but still.....Robbery!
In Louisiana, 1500sqft home I pay about 800 bucks on property tax. The big get is on income and sales tax. If you live modestly, Louisiana has some nice perks to retiring. Lots of good fishing and cuisine.
. . . and alligators to feed progressives to?
The only problem is that those fleeing high tax states don’t change their voting patterns when they move to lower cost states. They are still die hard liberal voters.
They should have to be subjected to living under what they vote in year after year.
A 1,200 sq ft house & he’s spending $400-500 to keep it warm?
Has he tried shutting the windows? Closing the doors? Wearing something besides t-shirts & shorts?
While I too would seek to move from New York, I would hope that these immigrants would not bring their politics with them. Rep. Wasserman-Schultz is an example that I wish would have stayed in her birth state. When we get them coming down and remaking their new neighborhoods into “Little” what-evers, I would hope that they remember that low taxes come from low demands upon government services. I do not like the idea of a warm weather New York City here in Florida.
All part of the natural environment.
Hell, those things were near endangered in the 70s. Now we got more than we know what to do with. See them all over the waterways.
Louisiana gets hurt for retirement rankings due to the crime in some parts. Just stay away from Baton Rouge and New Orleans and enjoy the life. Carry concealed and know we have a “stand your ground” law
Great. Retirees from New Jersey move to Florida and Texas and then vote to turn them into bankrupt Welfare State Hellholes like New Jersey.
Think fuel oil, not natural gas.
We live in AZ and we do love it here, and it can be pretty cheap. My smog test was $12. and I had to pay, something like $5. to get my renewal was less than $20. for muy 1992 Trooper.
But we are investigating moving to Panama because it is cheaper, and they know how to keep the other Central Americans out.
I check this site often:

And this is where we visited last year. Apparently you can live in this gated community by the beach for $1,200. a month.
It is even cheaper in Nicaragua for a cheap bugout, but FR made me aware that the Russians are interested again.
But still it is nice to think about:

Yeah. Then these jackasses move South, and say” that’s not how we did things in Jersey, or NewYawk, or Philly”. And then VOTE TO RECREATE THE SITUATION THEY LEFT.
Only one of the 50 states which I’ve never set foot in . . . really want to put it on my bucket list to check out.
Hasn’t he heard of global warming. Must be his A/C bill in the winter.
Too many NY’ers moving to FL, stay where you are; you made your bed lie in it.
There is already too much liberal influence in Florida.
Better include Shreveport in that list. Once had a cop tell me, as he handed back my gun at a traffic stop (I know), "Load up when you get around the corner, it is Shreveport, you know".
My wife has been bugging for us to move back to the US. I need to find a nice conservative Northern state near some alpine skiing. Too much to ask?
I'll be heading there soon...but not year round.I hate heat and humidity so I'm likely to spend January,February and March there...the rest in my soon-to-be main home, tax free New Hampshire.
Correct. There isn’t a Cook County politician who doesn’t dream of a high pension paid for by Illinois tax payers while he lays on a low-tax Florida beach.
