Spending too much time sitting still can increase the risk of some cancers, heart disease and diabetes, new research has shown.
Every extra two hours spent sitting was associated with a 10% increased chance of developing cancer of the womb lining in women, while bowel and lung cancer risk was raised by 8% and 6% respectively.
The effect appeared to be unrelated to how much exercise people took when not sitting. This suggests that even in people who are generally physically active, sitting down for too long can increase cancer risk.

Sounds like an attack on commuters too, no matter if they drive, use “public transport” or even ride a bike or horse.
Give me a million bucks and I’ll write a report about the dangers of something or other and how it relates to the risk of cancer. Eating peaches, smoking weed, showering once a week, you name it and if there’s easy money waiting to scoop up, I’ll get the report out.
Living in general is linked to a higher incidence of cancer.
I’m with B4R - ANYTHING in excess/ write a grant/ scare folks.
Sitting all day, if anything gives you a bad case of hemorrhoids... I know this from experience. :-[
Damned if you do, damned if you don’t, so do whatever you want. Sit all day long and die a happy couch potato.
Lowered my cancer risk but the bulging leg veins now make wearing board shorts problematic.
blah, blah, blah-blah...
The chemicals in the paints and the turpentine are probably going to kill me. Oh well, everybodys got to die of something sometime.
Yes, and wet streets cause rain. Sure glad we’re making all these scientific breakthroughs, I thought no one was working on science anymore.
I am so relieved.
Life will kill you.
Poor old Bob Ross died from cancer at age 52, nineteen years ago. How much sitting did he do?
Standing up a lot makes more health risks actually.
Must have been the oil paint fumes, or the paint thinner, or...
I think lying down is the only option here.
Peel me a grape!
Living linked to high risk of cancer.
Don’t know how much thinner he used. Linseed oil is edible, too.
:) Lying down too! Cycling about a 10 miles a day is that compensates for the problems with sitting.
I live in chairs and wheelchairs. I don’t have them. Maybe you should wait to sit on the toilet before straining.
I’m a dead man sitting!
I suspect these studies are funded by some shoe company. As Billy Graham once said, “The death rate is 100%”.
Most of my painting friends, paint sitting down. When you are working on a painting you need to back up ever so often and look at it from a distance. People who sit don’t do that.
We’re all dying from the moment we’re conceived, so I’m not gonna worry about this. :)
I live in a cubicle and a car ;-p But, yeah I need to drink more water lol.
