Even as millions of baby boomers approach retirement, the Social Security Administration has been closing dozens of field offices, forcing more and more seniors to seek help online instead of in person, according to a congressional report being released Wednesday.

The agency blames budget constraints.

As a result, seniors seeking information and help from the agency are facing increasingly long waits, in person and on the phone, the report said.

Social Security has closed 64 field offices since 2010, the largest number of closures in a five-year period in the agency’s history, according to a report by the bipartisan staff of the Senate Special Committee on Aging. …

Good news. Fewer field offices means fewer government employees to vote for Democrats.

And in the same period, how many welfare offices have been opened up signing up illegal aliens for US tax dollars?

...forcing more and more seniors to seek help online instead of in person...

Forcing? How about adapting to the fact that fewer people need to go to the field offices? I used to go to the bank every week, at a minimum. Now, I’m a member of a bank that only has branches in Washington state and STILL have my paychecks autodeposited there - and I’ve lived in KY for three years now. I have no need for a branch.

They’re just moving over to Obamacare and the IRS.

Most "Boomers" would rather deal with the government on line than in person.

Biggest freakin’ scam ever created. I mean imagine this: They steal your money for 30 or more years, then give you a mere pittance of it when you reach a certain age - an age which they change - AND they tax it!

SSA had an ad on their website featuring Patty Duke as to how easy was the process accessing their system online. Coming of retirement age myself, I have to say she was right.

Ignoring for a moment the transfer of personal data to the government, as well as the downright communism of the issue, why couldn’t the builder of the SSA website have been the contractor for Øbamacare?

Because if they did that, then they couldn’t try to sneak “single payer” into the public’s psyche.

Are they now spending our taxpayer dollars that were paying for those offices on Climate change commercials? Ahhh...no... may it’s on transgender support?

They would not have “budget constraints” if they were not approving every disability application that was submitted to them. Their SSI disability budget is exploding and, as bureaucrats usually do, they punish the public rather than make common sense cuts when they don’t have enough money.

This makes no sense. Yes, the baby boom (mid 40’s to mid 60’s) was an population increase, but it wasn’t a bump.

Those baby boomers had more than a replacement # of children, plus we had massive immigration, so the population of seniors isn’t decreasing.

Yep, they steal your money after they steal your money, then give you some money back and steal a portion of that as well. Who is the fool who started that Ponzi scheme anyway? And it is a Ponzi scheme down to the last cent. But who was the moron who started it? Was it Roosevelt? What an absolute disaster this thing turned out to be and it can never end, because like all Ponzi schemes, once people stop paying into it, the ones who are retired won’t get anything. So either they stop getting paid or the money has to come from somewhere else and that is never going to happen because they are already stealing the money that is set aside.
