I watch the NHL awards show every year and every year it really needs a cringe-o-meter.

In 1973, I saw Alex Delvecchio score a goal, top shelf, off a faceoff draw. I couldn’t believe my 12 year old eyes.

Crosby received 128 of 137 first place votes for the Hart. He certainly deserved it. He dragged the Pens to the playoffs with the likes of Tanner Glass, Chuck Kobasew and Brian Gibbons as his wings. It was the most impressive regular season I’ve ever seen. Thank God and Greyhound Shero/Bylsma are gone.

So, who was the young lady with Sid last night? His sister?

That’s who I thought it was. I was wondering if he and that model broke up.

Looks like the Penguins made a good pick for their new head coach, Mike Johnston.

And adding Rick Tocchet to the bench seems a good idea too.

Maybe he can help bring some physicality back that left with Matt Cooke.

I haven't been impressed with Tocchet’s recent interviews with the local radio shows. Johnston seems real wild card. He's been described as an offense first guy who doesn't emphasize defense. That was mentioned as a way to explain why Derrick Pouliot’s not so good in his own end. Perhaps that's why the Pens kept Martin. He seems to understand defense. I'd like to see them institute a football like game plan with an offensive coordinator and a defensive coordinator. If they do that, this collection of coaches makes sense to me.

Maybe Matt Niskanen will follow him there.

I’m an addict. I’m watching the draft. Watching the NHL awards show is scrapping bottom so I can say this is a step up! :-)

Crap! James Neal gone to Nashville. We’d better get Forsberg as part of a return.

Finally drafted a forward after 4 years of taking D’s.

Not sure about the Neal trade. Clearing cap space maybe?

It doesn’t really clear much space. Spaling is a RFA and Hornqvist makes more than 4mil.

Rutherford says he’s going to sign a free agent. I wonder who the Pens could afford.

From twitter - "Adam Gretz ‏@AGretz The Penguins save no cap space, get no pick, and downgrade on the wing. Unbelievable."

Pens will free up about $800,000.00 on the deal.

That’s a pretty disingenuous article. The Pens didn’t trade for Hornqvist straight up. They took on $5.75 million in contracts while giving up $5 mil. The extra cap hit going toward a third/ fourth line winger. I think this replaces one of Taylor Pyatt or Tanner Glass. Guys who are (or should be) strictly bottom sixers. Pyatt was more expensive than Spaling by 50,000 and Glass was less expensive by 400,000.
