Funny that he waited ‘till today. It’ll be a short ban, they’re out of the World Cup.

Someone is looking for some free publicity for their pub!

Obviously a big difference between an Irish publican and an Irish Republican.

The England team visited an orphanage in Brazil today. “It’s heartbreaking to see their sad little faces with no hope,” said Jose, age 6.

“Seven excellent teams made it to the UEFA Cup final round. And England.”

I’m sorry. I stole it without permission.

Does anyone know the anti-Irish song the British soccer hooligans love? It starts out: “Could you go a chicken supper Bobby Sands . . .” Who knows the rest? (And, as an Irishman, I can get away with asking.)

Not heard that one for ages!

It’s basically that line repeated for a verse, then changed to
“could you go a can of coke” etc. finishing on

“Go a can of coke
We hope you F****** choke
Could you go can of coke Bobby Sands”

Very good! I never heard that version. There must be many. The one I heard is sung to the turn of "She'll be Comin' Round the Mountain" and goes like this:

Could you go a chicken supper Bobby Sands?

Could you go a chicken supper Bobby Sands?

Could you go a chicken supper, you filthy Irish f**ker?

Could you go a chicken supper, Bobby Sands?

So-so game for Suarez. Scored two goals but didn't get to bite anyone.

His pub, his rules. There must be some Gaelic word for ‘Schadenfreude’ though.

Yes, I think the done thing is to add one’s own immediate thoughts on posting a new thread. Do forgive my tardiness but as I am what I believe is technically known as a ‘noob’ or some such, my postings are being, I expect quite rightly, given some certain scrutiny by the powers that be here before being published and with a consequent delay.

In any case, as one who hails from the Saints and Scholars outer region of western Europe and who is similarly resident in this wonderful London, I thought this item might be a light-hearted opener to my time on FR.

I’ve been reading and absorbing this site for some several years and it does seem an island of (if occasionally raucous) sanity in an ever more skewed world..

Slainte etc..

Cathy.
