Readers' Picks: Best Travel Songs of All Time
CNN ^ | Fri June 20, 2014 | Chuck Thompson

Posted on 06/20/2014 5:26:00 PM PDT by nickcarraway

Once in while, the CNN Travel braintrust blows it -- make that all the time if you happen to be @cnnalwaysblowsit47.

Such was the case last year when we published our updated list of the greatest travel songs ever recorded. Sure, we included a few unassailable classics about life on the travel trail.

Even @cnnisamoron231 couldn't rage against our inclusion of Willie Nelson's all-time sing-a-long "On the Road Again."

But we have to admit, once in a while, @iloathecnn and @cnntroll99 have valid points to make.

How exactly did we miss such obvious wanderlust ditties as the Allman Brothers Bands' "Ramblin' Man" and Kris Kristofferson's "Me and Bobby McGee"?

Great song, but I was thinking of “Over the Hills and Far Away.”
Also , how about “Back Where It All Begins” by the Allman Brothers?

This is a strange one: Jean-Luc Pentatonic.

When I was working in Funeral Service, I had to go down to Jacksonville to pick up a body. I made fun of Jean-Luc Ponty, but it's actually pretty good traveling music.

Haven't been on a road trip in a while, but I usually tried to find a local station, listen to what they were talking about. Or, a CD of a piece of music I wanted to study in depth. (meaning listen to over and over again...)

Oooh YEAH! I forgot about that one - and the title reminds me of "Ramble on" by Led Zeppelin.

I looked back at the link and realized the list came from CNN which made me wonder what the CNN type of people think about or listen too.

How the hell did they over look Can't You See? by the Marshall Tucker Band?

Eagles. Take it Easy:

Well, I’m running down the road
tryin’ to loosen my load
I’ve got seven women on
my mind,
Four that wanna own me,
Two that wanna stone me,
One says she’s a friend of mine
Take It easy, take it easy
Don’t let the sound of your own wheels
drive you crazy
Lighten up while you still can
don’t even try to understand
Just find a place to make your stand
and take it easy
Well, I’m a standing on a corner
in Winslow, Arizona
and such a fine sight to see
It’s a girl, my Lord, in a flatbed
Ford slowin’ down to take a look at me
Come on, baby, don’t say maybe
I gotta know if your sweet love is
gonna save me
We may lose and we may win though
we will never be here again
so open up, I’m climbin’ in,
so take it easy
Well I’m running down the road trying to loosen
my load, got a world of trouble on my mind
lookin’ for a lover who won’t blow my
cover, she’s so hard to find
Take it easy, take it easy
don’t let the sound of your own
wheels make you crazy
come on baby, don’t say maybe
I gotta know if your sweet love is
gonna save me, oh oh oh
Oh we got it easy
We oughta take it easy
