Posted on 06/20/2014 8:44:46 PM PDT by Up Yours Marxists
The White House is finally addressing a serious, and misunderstood, problem with a new bee plan. The bee plan is a federal strategy to stop the sharp decline of pollinators, most notably bees, and restore pollinator populations to their previous buzzing glory.
Can the White House end a problem that has alluded scientists and policy makers for over a decade?
The bee plan is focused on habitats and bureaucracy.
The first step of the plan is form a task force. The group will include representatives from 14 major federal departments (click here for the full list).

Is there any scam this "administration" ISN'T involved in?
Whutz the buzz about?
So while the VA slaughters our veterans, ISIS slaughters the Iraqi army, and a horde of Central Americans slaughter our economy, Obama has in the last week...
Banned Ugandans from entering America
Saved the bees
The administration is entering the Carter phase of clownery. What’s next, a slew of puppet show regulations?
Maybe they can hitch a ride with the kids from Central America.
If bureaucrats, the holy miracle workers of the govt., nothing can save the bee.
Now all bow down and receive Obamas blessing.
Last night it was salt. Today it’s bees and summer goofing off.
So let it be written,
So let it be done....
Just think of all of the things the fascists will ban while pretending to save the bees.....
There is in fact a crisis. It’s been going on for a number of years now. I know people who have lost all their hives in one season. That said I think universities research labs can more efficiently determine cause and course of action better than government.
FTA: “that has alluded scientists”.
Other than that - we’ll be lucky to have any bees left after the zero admin “creates strategy to restore pollinator populations”. Everything he touches is a really expensive FLOP.
Great. With the government’s track record, bees will be extinct in 3 years!
Nice going Zero!!!
(Do I really need to tag this?)
Obama is gonna save the bees?
This will not go well for the bees.
Poor little guys might as well kiss their beehinds goodbye.
Can anyone say Agenda 21? Yes, I knew Sasha and Malia could.
Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) is a phenomenon in which worker bees from a European honey bee colony abruptly disappear. While such disappearances have occurred throughout the history of apiculture, and were known by various names (disappearing disease, spring dwindle, May disease, autumn collapse, and fall dwindle disease), the syndrome was renamed colony collapse disorder in late 2006 in conjunction with a drastic rise in the number of disappearances of Western honeybee colonies in North America. European beekeepers observed similar phenomena in Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Greece, Italy, Portugal, and Spain, and initial reports have also come in from Switzerland and Germany, albeit to a lesser degree while the Northern Ireland Assembly received reports of a decline greater than 50%.
Colony collapse is significant economically because many agricultural crops worldwide are pollinated by European honey bees. According to the Agriculture and Consumer Protection Department of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the worth of global crops with honeybees pollination was estimated to be close to $200 billion in 2005. Shortages of bees in the US have increased the cost to farmers renting them for pollination services by up to 20%.
The mechanisms of CCD and the reasons for its increasing prevalence remain unclear, but many possible causes have been proposed: pesticides, primarily neonicotinoids; infections with Varroa and Acarapis mites; malnutrition; various pathogens; genetic factors; immunodeficiencies; loss of habitat; changing beekeeping practices; or a combination of factors.
Imagine 2+ more years of this...or maybe I should say...imagine where we’ll be maybe a year from now....?
Correct. This is a big problem. Bees are dying off and we don’t know why. Healthy bees are crucial for our crops. I don’t disagree with the Administration on this even though they do everything else wrong.
That’s damned funny right there!
I take it they’ll bring in experts like Jerry Seinfeld and Chris Rock to testify in front of some executive “review board”.
It’s a shame. This is a real serious factual problem that some of our best AG scientist are working on. But government has created so much mistrust by crying wolf for Gorebull Warming etc that many are skeptical. The government needs to step back and let the so far unbiased scientist and researchers figure out the cause. If the government steps in the research will immediately be focused mainly on how many researchers and the bees themselves are gay, bi-sexual, minority, etc.
The major problem for the bees is varroa mites.
Given that premis, we should be lobbying The One's administration to set a new policy to eradicate all bees on the North American continent as the best way to eliminate too much Fructose used in refined food. With their track record, there'd be a bee hive in every tree, bush, and dog house before the end of the year!
Says who? Which bees are you talking about? The EUROPEAN honey bees, which aren’t even supposed to bee here? How did crops survive before they were brought over from imperial pig states back in colonial times???
Leave it to this “administration” to propose a “help a brouthah out” plan. Like forcing more Afro bees North to “jump start” a bloated, crop-wasting corporate festering farming conglomerate. Watch. They’re gonna suggest this.
The best thing the government could do is no strings attached grants to facilities that are now active in researching this. It likely wouldn’t take that much. NBy no strings I mean simply stay out of their way and let them work. No coming in and promoting political agenda including Dept of Labor and Equal Opportunity promoting Unions etc which distracts from and slows down if not stops the research. A pipe dream because they won’t.
My own personal guess? No conspiracy just major mistakes which have cost us many a native to North America only asset such as the Chestnut Blight. In the Appalachians before logging had really took off there were six foot plus diameter Chestnut Trees. What happened? Someone brought in the non native Chinese Chestnut which carried the blight it was resistant too. The Chestnuts roasting over an open fire are likely Chinese grown here. The American trees are making a very slow comeback.
I believe the Bee issue will eventually also be traced back to importing what was not native to this region.
Another “global warming” scam. There’s not enough evidence to support the bee decline as man-made vs. natural cyclical bee colony loss.
“More research is needed. Appropriate $xxx, xxx, xxx, xxx so I can buy my private Bee-757”.
They like to say we don’t believe in science. This is a case of putting policy in place damn the science. If they don’t know what causes it how will implementing policy fix it? It won’t, but it will get some more of his Marxist policies in place.
They might be able to tax them for every human they sting but they won’t be able to pay up if they do because they’ll be dead....money always fixes everything, right?
Massive parts of China are without bees and they have to pollinate crops by hand which is very labor intensive.
If that were to happen here, we would have to import labor from Latin America or we would go hungry.
My wife says all these kids coming across the border are “Future Farmers of America”.
Insect populations down 40% in 5 years because of cool and wet summers. This of cause is bad for pollination of fruit and berries. The grain harvest in Norway this summer is down 18% from average the last 5 years, despite increase in area and better seeds
The above figure shows Norwegian wheat production from 1960. Wheat production is off 48% from its peak:
You, my FRiend, are in dire need of some education about Honey Bees, and would do well to go talk to a beekeeper to get your facts correct.
The fact is that many of the crops we grow and ENJOY today in the USA were not able to survive here before we imported honey bees from Europe and Russia. Why do you say that was not supposed to happen? Would you rather the USA have to import all those fruits and vegetables you love that are not native? For instance, the apple..... the only apple native to the USA is the crabapple.
The fact is that we would not be feeding the population of our country like we do without the honeybee.
"If you put the government in charge of the Sahara desert, there'll eventually be a shortage of sand." Milton Friedman
The bees are about to be wiped out.
Monsanto will be pleased.
Seems to me when you introduce a killer plant to a population that can't tell the difference you're going to run into problems.
It also seems to me that the people who do these things know what will happen.
Those who receive the grants will be the masters of the propaganda.
“You, my FRiend, are in dire need of some education about Honey Bees, and would do well to go talk to a beekeeper to get your facts correct.”
I’m well versed in the history of honey bees. I know many beekeepers. They are biased, you know. They want to raise the emergency flag because their colonies “might collapse”. Gotta protect their interests. Sound familiar?
Honey bees didn’t exist west of Kansas until after 1851. But “miraculously” (in contrast to tunnel vision scientists) many areas were lush with vegetation. Crops in southern California were plentiful and tribes were able to grow corn and fruit all along the central valley. Corn, maize, beans, squash, crab apples, and many more. When the Spaniards gained control of the area, farming tripled, all without the help of the bees.
I will grant you bees are excellent pollinators, but they aren’t the only pollinators. In fact it’s the obnoxious fly that pollinates more flowering vegetation than any other insect in North America. Sure, our crops might be different, but we certainly aren’t going to go hungry if the European honey bees die off (which they won’t). So, if the fly population begins to die off, will this Marxist moonbat administration start yet another money-wasting, crony capitalist task force?
Another one legged chicken little argument on a wobbly 4 legged table.
