The White House is finally addressing a serious, and misunderstood, problem with a new “bee plan.” The bee plan is a federal strategy to stop the sharp decline of pollinators, most notably bees, and restore pollinator populations to their previous buzzing glory.
Can the White House end a problem that has alluded scientists and policy makers for over a decade?
The bee plan is focused on habitats… and bureaucracy.
The first step of the plan is form a task force. The group will include representatives from 14 major federal departments (click here for the full list).

There is in fact a crisis. It’s been going on for a number of years now. I know people who have lost all their hives in one season. That said I think universities research labs can more efficiently determine cause and course of action better than government.

According to the Agriculture and Consumer Protection Department of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the worth of global crops with honeybee’s pollination was estimated to be close to $200 billion in 2005.[7] Shortages of bees in the US have increased the cost to farmers renting them for pollination services by up to 20%.[8]
The mechanisms of CCD and the reasons for its increasing prevalence remain unclear, but many possible causes have been proposed: pesticides, primarily neonicotinoids; infections with Varroa and Acarapis mites; malnutrition; various pathogens; genetic factors; immunodeficiencies; loss of habitat; changing beekeeping practices; or a combination of factors.

Correct. This is a big problem. Bees are dying off and we don’t know why. Healthy bees are crucial for our crops. I don’t disagree with the Administration on this even though they do everything else wrong.
That’s damned funny right there!
I take it they’ll bring in experts like Jerry Seinfeld and Chris Rock to testify in front of some executive “review board”.
