The total number of disability beneficiaries in the United States topped 11 million for the first time last month, increasing from 10,996,447 in April to a record 11,004,507 in May, according to new data released by the Social Security Administration. The number of Americans receiving disability benefits continues to exceed the populations of Greece, Tunisia and Portugal and is drawing closer to Cuba, whose population of 11,047,251 (as reported by the CIA) is just 42,744 more than the 11,004,507 Americans receiving disability benefits.

But it's important to remember that "the economy's turning around." Don't worry, the Marxist Moslem's fundamental transformation of America is almost complete. Just sit back (or lie down), fake a "disability", get on SSI for life, and enjoy the ride to the United States' economic ruin./sarc

Fat is not a disability for probably about 90% who are.
Ugly isn’t either.

Around where I grew up as a kid (in Ala)...if I drew a circle today of five miles...there’s probably forty people on disability (some as young as 30). I’d say that half are absolutely legit...but it’s mostly back issues. The other half are question marks, and I think they ought to be dragged back in for another exam every single year and a renewal process.

You wouldn’t believe the cases we have in our area. People by the droves are seeking help from others to beat the system and sign up for disability.

Back Issues? They need to listen to a Dr. Wallach You Tube. . . mostly nutrition related.

Any tub of lard (read: fat f**k) on a wheelchair is “disabled”. Just go to any lower class retailer and notice these fatsos rolling around in the store-given mobility scooters (after they park their large butts in a nearby reserved disabled parking, of course).

>>Let me here interject something about the intellectual and moral corruption wrought by the state in recent years—and I don’t know whether it applies to America. The governments of Britain, of both political parties, managed to lessen the official rate of unemployment by the simple expedient of shifting people from the ranks of the unemployed to the ranks of the sick. This happened on such a huge scale that, by 2006—a year of economic boom, remember—the British welfare state had achieved the remarkable feat of producing more invalids than the First World War. But it is known that the majority of those invalids had no real disease. This feat, then, could have been achieved only by the willing corruption of the unemployed themselves—relieved from the necessity to seek work and relieved to have a slightly higher subvention—but also of the doctors who provided them with official certificates that they knew to be bogus. And the government was only too happy, for propaganda purposes, to connive at such large-scale fraud. One begins to see what Confucius meant when he said, 2,500 years ago, that the first thing to do to restore a state to health was to rectify the names—in other words, to call things by their right names rather than by euphemisms.<<

I have a relative who has been on disability for years. He is evaluated on a regular basis. The big problem with disability is the person loses control of their health care choices. They lose their mobility, since they stay where their health care is established. In the lousy job market, it's almost impossible for a person to ease their way back into the work force, especially since they get food stamps, free medical, Obamaphones, enough money for rent.

I can't see where it's a good deal for people who are cheating to stay with it; it's so restrictive. And it doesn't seem to help many of the people who depend on disability get better.

I wonder if my relative would've been better off working through the problem, avoiding the government help. But that's just one person's experience.

“they ought to be dragged back in for another exam every single year and a renewal process.”

That’s what happens with workers comp disability. I know of a claimant who refused to show up for years - the claim handler finally got a judge to allow her to stop paying until he showed up for an IME (independent medical exam). The guy who had been in a wheelchair for years could suddenly walk. And his girlfriend who was being PAID to be his caretaker wasn’t being paid any more.

I wonder how many would lose that payment if they had to prove it year after year.

This is such a scam. There are people who genuinely can’t work and then there are people who scam the system. I know of at least 4 people at my work, all veterans, who have recently gotten a disability rating from the VA. I think three of them are claiming sleep apnea and get 50% disability. There is absolutely nothing wrong with them. One of them participates in adult soccer and softball leagues. So, basically, in addition to very large lump sum payments, they get about as much in disability as I get for retirement pay from the USMC. It makes me sick when I think about it. This system cannot last with some many taking and so few paying.

It’s a new growth industry for tort attorneys.

As cars get safer and miles driven goes down in the ongoing Baraqqi Depression, the opportunities for ambulance chasers is reduced.

Now they’re all advertising to press disability claims.

I’m not on disability, but remember that we Baby Boomers will continue to degenerate. And we’ll continue to die over the next 20 years or so. Real estate will continue to plunge with that trend, unless business and political leaders import much of the equatorial population and let their daughters marry into it.
