This is funny. Sure, Uruguay can say they lost the 2010 semi-final because Luis Suarez was sitting out a red card. It may be an excuse or a fact. I’m sure it has been said. Big deal.

“Show me where Portugal complained in 2006??”

Sure; first France cheated by knocking them out, then Germany cheated them out of third place.

Was that a serious question? Do you know any of these people?

Portugal is a province of Spain, that’s why they speak a different language there. More excuses without much backup. I’ve never heard anything like this.

Excuses, so sportswriters have 2 times given Ronaldo World Player of the Year award but we are suppose to believe in the excuses some pundits make about his supporting cast. Let it be known, that excuse is usually made about Lionel Messi who has had some of the best backup at Barcelona. When Messi wins the award, I just accept it.

“Obviously when you get into the last second, it’s unfortunate,” said Klinsmann. “Now we got to beat Germany, and that’s what we got to do.”

The USA seized the lead with nine minutes to play, and it was a team goal that prised a fragile Portuguese backline apart. Jermaine Jones passed the ball down wide right to DeAndre Yedlin, who pulled the ball back up to Bradley at the top of the box. He put the ball down wide left to Graham Zusi, and his whipped-in cross was met by Dempsey’s chest to beat Beto in the goal.

Competent defending wins this game 2-0. That’s the sad part. Cameron’s awful clearance gifted Nani and how you allow a free header in the last half minute of added time while playing with three center backs is absolutely beyond me.

Countless Portuguese in my town (Kearny NJ), which 40 years ago received an influx of draft-dodgers from the Angola War. One went so far as to tell me that Portugal had won the World Cup; when I asked when, he pointed to something in 2006 that he blamed for eliminating them in an earlier round. They hadn;t even reached the final game, and in his mind they had won it (and you’d never convince him otherwise).

Province of Spain. What a joke.

By the way, a whole incident was initiated where Portugal were down a man for 2/3rds of a game vs. Germany. All that started with a dive, feigning injury, trying to get a man sent off and fake being hit in the mouth. So, let’s make sure we have this part of the story.

Of course, we heard nothing about that. We hear nothing but excuses.

In 2010, Portugal had to play Spain in the first knockout round. Obviously they would have rather defeated Brazil and played Chile.
