World Cup nations Mexico, Brazil, Croatia and Russia are currently under investigation by FIFA. The international governing body of association football are reportedly looking into the fan behavior of these four national football teams regarding recent actions at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Fans of El Tri, the Mexican national football team currently competing in the international tournament are allegedly set to receive disciplinary actions, according to NBC the penalizing procedures have already begun for Mexicos loyal fans. FIFAs response comes in the wake of fans seemingly obvious, though still at this point alleged racist and homophobic remarks and gestures directed at the opponent of El Tri in Fridays opening World Cup match against Cameroon.
In addition to other complaints regarding fan behavior, the major issue with Mexican fans is a chant that unfortunately has become some sort of a tradition. This chant is directed at goalkeepers before their goal kicks, despite the outrageous nature of the chant, the homophobic slur is apparently common in multiple Mexican sports stadiums. The chant revolves around the word puto, which is a derogatory terms referring to homosexuals. The chant which is continually yelled throughout the game, is directed at the opposing teams goalkeeper is known to be a part of the live Mexican soccer experience.
According to Soccerly, this derogatory chant happens in every single stadium in Mexico and almost no one can be excused from participating in this act, so it should come as no surprise that despite the world stage of the World Cup 2014 games, El Tri fans behave in the exact same way as they do in their home stadiums; with men, women and children alike join in to yell puto in unison with thousands of other fans.
During Tuesdays World Cup match between Mexico and Brazil in Fortaleza, Brazilian fans soon began to imitate the insulting, however apparently addicting Mexican puto chant. FIFA immediately began to take note of the slurs being tossed back and forth between fans. Currently the organization is considered that without any disciplinary action, the ritual will soon begin to spread to other fans causing more puto uproar in stadiums.
Following the match in Arena Castelao, both countries are set to be issued a warning regarding their fans behavior. BBC reports that is fans are caught participating in discriminatory chants in future games, FIFA could first punish fans by having the games played behind closed doors or even threaten these teams with point deduction, in an attempt to prevent acts like these from happening again during the World Cup. As for Croatia and Russia, their fans were seen carrying anti-Semitic and racist banners, which will most likely result in warning to their nations.
The literal translation of “puto” is male prostitute.
As most male prostitutes service male clients, a secondary meaning is fag.
The pink mafia is on the march through FIFA again.
maybe they were making fun at all the bathrooms that all just had question marks on them.
Sounds like an excellent way to screw the fans and countries of your opponents with a few “false flag” incidents .... but hey, who would even think of such a thing which would cause violent riots.
The word ‘puto’ does not translate as ‘homosexual’. It translates as ‘male *hore’.
The Spanish word for ‘male homosexual’ is ‘maricón’. Maybe is it is a Mexican thing but I have never heard a Mexican use the word ‘puto’ to mean ‘homosexual’.
There was a program on HBO Sports last night about all of the European teams shouting racial epithets against other teams. Those fans even throw bananas at the opposing players.
Mexicans take their machismo seriously. No Village People for them.
If as many fans participate as noted, there’s not a thing the P.C. police can do about it.
Play the game behind closed doors? Ludicrous.
The slurs and "homophobic" taunts were actually mild for those kids. LOL.
What would Mexico do anyhow? Have an announcement at the beginning of each game, “Please do not shout ‘Puto’ at the goalies”??
Miguel de Cervantes uses the word “puto” to mean fag/homosexual in Don Quixote.
Like much slang, its meaning varies by usage and intention.
It can be a noun, a verb or an adverb.
A “putazo” in Mexico means a very strong hit, as with a fist.
In Cuba “puto” can mean a womanizer.
In the Philippines(under almost 400 years of Spanish Colonial rule) “puto” means rice muffins.
Mexico City, in control by the Left since democratization, has legalized gay “marriage.”
I used to visit Tijuana fairly regularly in the 80’s.
Near this restaurant I frequented there was a retarded kid outside that would say “ La Why, La Why, La Why”
He was singing YMCA, but somehow he could not get past the first letter.
I guess big city liberalism isn’t just a USA phenomenon, huh.
But how about redneck Mexicans?
Just make Mexico, Brazil, Croatia and Russia sell their teams......... oh wait......
Mexican rednecks can also use the word "puto" to mean coward. A variation of the fag meaning. My guess is this is the definition the Mexican Soccer Federation will used to defend its fans.
Did they investigate any muslim countries?
“The word puto does not translate as homosexual. It translates as male *hore.”
It may not translate to “queer” But it is what it is. They’re calling the goalie a queer. gotta love it. It’s the same treatment basketball teams get at Cameron indoor Arena
