So I voted today in Maryland...

When I pulled up to the middle school, there was a table set up outside under a big shade tree with three ladies sitting behind it. Some American flag decorations on it and some pamphlets. As I made my way by it towards the school entrance I said:

"Hi ladies--what affiliation are you, sitting under this tree?" And they said: "Democrats."

And I said: "Have a nice day, ladies." They mumbled something. Since I saw the flags, I thought maybe they were Tea Party.

Then inside, when asked for party, I said "Tea Party." And all of them almost fell over. The old man taking my info didn't know what to say, so I said "Do you have Republican Party here in Montgomery County?"

"Yes." I said fine. Ha.

When they said they were dems, you should have looked puzzled and asked Why?

Tea Party! Ha. I'm trying to decide whether I should run over and vote. I don't see anything to support.

Isn’t voting in Maryland kinda like voting in North Korea?

Yes.

Except the candidates in North Korea are less troll and ogre looking than the ones in Maryland.

And the Norks have better haircuts.

I voted in Anne Arundel County, where there are a few more conservatives. I used to live in Montgomery County, where you may now be the only conservative to reside there. When AA County went to touchscreen, one of the poll workers asked me if I understood the machine. I said “I’m a Republican, so I’m not easily confused by new voting procedures.”

Voted in a non-democrat enclave. They asked my name, address, and party affiliation...maybe DOB too I’m not sure. I don’t remember that level of questioning before but I didn’t mind it.

Good grief. You should vote anyway. There is no excuse, no matter what you are supporting or are against. You can at least vote “No” on the bond measures.

I used to live in AA, Calvert and Saint Mary’s counties. The latter two were solid red at one time. I shudder to think of how they vote now..

were the ladies more than 100 feet away from the polling place?

Md. Elec. Law § 16-206 generally establishes a 100-ft no-electioneering zone around polling places where election materials, pamphlets and other such party-specific doodads cannot be shown to others, displayed or handed out. (I think flags get a pass, tho)

explained: (other rules and regulations, 1. Electioneering)

I would imagine just about that distance. If I knew the law, I would have walked the distance off.

LOL! Most excellent, Pharmboy. I may try that next election -- but I'm in Carroll, still somewhat "normal" comparatively speaking.

Since I saw the flags, I thought maybe they were Tea Party.

The flag is just a prop the commies use at certain times of the year.

I was asked today for my address and DOB —just the month and day. Usually, I am just asked my name.

I have never been, in all of my years of voting, asked for ID.

Well, I am afraid that I see Anthony Almost Brown as our next gov.

Hogan, the GOP nominee, seems like a good guy. He seems competant and earnest. But, here in Maryland, where the urban population density areas, particularly Baltimore and large parts of Prince Georges County, choose our governor, white boy Hogan does not stand a chance.

The Republican Party could have had a chance if Lollard, a black man, had been elected. It’s just a political reality that many black democrats would have voted for him in the general just because he is black.

When Ehrlich was elected governor in 2002 it was because he had a black man as a running mate. Black Dems defected from the party to elect him.

As I said, Hogan is good. But so is Lollar. I have liked Lollar ever since I first saw him on TV. He is a good and decent man, he has many good ideas, and he has passion. Hogan came across in the debates as very pro-business and practical. But, as I said, white boy is not going to get the votes.

If Maryland’s Rep Party really cared and wanted to win, they would have gotten behind Lollar.

Not “red” when you look at the budget.

I voted for Lollar.

Ron George is smarmy. Hogan was ok (just ok).

David Craig tried to take credit for creating 8000 jobs in Harford Co. It was BRAC that did that - not David Craig.

And he put out one whopper of a deceitful mailer about Lollar a couple of days before the election.

I have lost a lot of respect for David Craig.

So sorry to hear that about Craig. He had me fooled. But Lollar was my man. I hope he stays in the political arena. Would love to see him face off against Mikulsi, the RED DWARF.

Agree with you on the bond measures. Other than local bond and school board issues, there is the fact that the government claims legitimacy for all it does, because it is elected. You know, the same argument Saddam Hussein used. The government's claim to "representing the will of the people" is weakened when the people don't vote, and otherwise refuse to recognize the government.

My daughter moved out of state. When we got her state voter guide, I called to ask when she is removed. (It’s only been two years) I was told that they have no mechanism for MVA to notify the Board of Election when someone cancels their residency.

I asked if that wasn’t a recipe for fraud. She agreed and was clearly disgusted. My daughter had to send a letter to self-remove.
