I have an old version KLR (06). Anything more than 200 miles in one day on the highway is sheer torture. The motor is pretty buzzy above 60 MPH. Going up a tooth on the countershaft helps . . .
The seat was patented by the Master Torturer’s Association. It will kill you after two hours.
The KLR is a great all around bike. A highway star it is not.
I second the idea that if you’re going to do mostly highway, the enduro isn’t what you’re after. The seat, for one thing, is not conducive to any long trips and you’ll be sorry.

Not a problem ,, you’ll probably chemical strip it or blast it down to bare metal/plastic/fiberglass anyway ,,, I would suggest blasting with baking soda or dry ice and then powder coating the frame.

Yes, but I’m not sure how much I want to invest in this unknown quality bike. Maybe eventually repaint it.
