(CNN) -- Dozens of concertgoers were hospitalized during a show by superstar DJ Avicii in Boston on Wednesday night, CNN affiliates reported.

Local media put the number of patients anywhere between 30 and 80.

Massachusetts General Hospital told CNN it received 13 patients between ages 16 and 19. All of the patients are being evaluated, said Kory Zhao, a hospital public affairs officer.

Most patients had a problem with dehydration, drugs and alcohol, authorities told CNN affiliate WHDH.

I read on a radio site that the EDM station in Boston changed last week to country music.

Call me Rip Van Winkle, but I have never heard of this “superstar.”

Most of the people with medical problems were outside the concert, not inside. The bouncers would not let them in because they appeared to be intoxicated.

That said, many of the drugs popular with teh EDM crowd give you a fever (the media usually says “raises the body temperature”). Combine that with a high ambient and no readily available water, you have a problem.

I went to a dance concert and there was a pile of 16 oz water bottles, a big pile, and it was gone by the halfway point!

It sounds as if he is the Tom Jones of the EDM scene — makes people swoon. /sarc.

I have heard the beat but am not too familiar with the overall concept. Are there vocals or is it mainly computerized repetitive words played.

“but I have never heard of this “superstar.””

Avicii, Deadmau5, Skrillex, Shpongle, EOTO, Desert Dwellers, Phutureprimitive, Amon Tovin and a bunch of others are pretty popular these days.

So now you’re a ‘Superstar” just for spinning records?

It depends, you can have actual songs, Shpongle has two female vocalists, or you can get an outfit like The Orb who uses sampled speech and song from a variety of sources.

A song that was very popular was “I can be the one to make you feel that way”, it was a regular pop song, but in EDM style.

Superstar? I had never heard of him. I must live in a cave.

I listened to a few of his songs on youtube. I was amazed at the number of views. Not exactly this old-timer’s thing but it sure beats rap. Hopefully this will gain momentum and put rap in the burial ground.

I am sure it won’t be too long before some rap-like moral degenerates pollute this too.

some of these deejays are very talented... these days, it is a lot more than just spinning records... actually, it has been that way for a long time now... at least more than two decades... when i was growing up in the Bay Area, Cameron Paul was "thee" deejay...

ha! okay... sleep tight... btw, there was a time when real instruments were not allowed in the church... only reading and then singing of the Psalms were allowed...

Yes Clear Channel introduced the Bull. A couple years back it was owned by Boston Phoenix, you know, the Occupy, we hate big eeeevil corporations people. So they’re having $ troubles and Steve Mindich decided to sell the station, for $14.5 Million.

To Clear Channel.
Schadenfreude! Those eeeevil people who put Rush, Hannity etc on the air! Glad you’re sticking to your political principles Steve! After a “variety hits” format they went to Evolution 101.7: All Things Dance in Dec of 2012, I think.

They went country because country is popular, yes even in Boston, with Greater Media’s WKLB being #1 recently. At the very least, if they “shave some points” of WKLB, their own
Kiss 108 (top 40) can remain number one.

So the “EDM” fans were so upset when it changed to Hot New
Country, the Bull. I got a kick out of the name...
“hey, the BULL’S HIT Country” :) I just joked on Twitter
that maybe they could put EDM back on (no, they won’t)
and they can call it WMLE, Molly 101.7. All things overdose.

As we have discussed in the past, I am holding out for a punk/new wave greatest hits radio channel (Ramones, Blondie, Clash, the Fixx, new wave one hit wonders, early MTV music memories, etc.).

Then again, I’d be one of maybe five listeners. :-)

Within the last year, I walked into a liquor store and heard the Jam cranked. I saw the 20-something employee and asked if he knew the song. He told me it was “the all Clash channel (or related music). I think I bored him with memories of my youth. :-)
