In an effort to get a glimpse of how the world thinks about beauty, the journalist Esther Honig sent out a photo of herself to graphic designers in more than 20 countries.

Their task: to edit the photo to make Honig look "beautiful" — however the designer defined the term.

The results are telling. Each photo represents the personal and cultural beauty standards of the designer, with the American editor giving Honig bright blue eyes and long hair, and the Israeli designer darkening her eyes and skin.

Beauty as this article defined for United States is absolutely a joke. Whom exactly are they asking? Immature teenagers?

I tend to agree.

This is not a representation of countries, except in a broad sense.

This is a representation of artists.

In the US, artists tend to be in the middle sexually, meaning they tend themselves to be sort of vague.

I doubt this is representative of anything.

I certainly don’t enthusiastically adopt the US version.

Just saying.

Actually I was surprised half of them, including the UK, didn’t look like Morrocco!

And I will admit to have a naughty thought when I saw the word “Kenya”...

Yeah....if this is supposed to represent the US idea of beauty nowadays, where’s the tats and various piercings and stretchings? And why is the hair all one color?

i agree... no photoshop expert in the US would have that as the example of what it is considered beautiful here... i took it all pretty seriously until the US example...

and i find it hard to believe almost every country shown has the hair up in a bun... even in Greece, Italy and the United Kingdom? really???

i was hoping to see France...

It's interesting that the photoshop that makes her most resemble a trashy streetwalker is from...

...The United States.

How very disappointing.

I know, it’s ridiculous to attach meaning to this. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

If you saw women without their plucking and makeup, you would be shocked. Add in nose jobs and other surgery, and it’s all a big lie. Northern and Western European women tend to be naturally beautiful, and the rest of the World’s women tend to modify themselves to the extreme.

This girl, even in the “no makeup” state, has already had extreme “beautification” performed.
