SYRIAN REBELS CAN PLAY ROLE IN IRAQ, SAYS KERRY

Syrian rebels can help push back jihadists in Iraq, US Secretary of State John Kerry said Friday as Washington unveiled plans to boost Syria's opposition with $500 million in arms and training.

The top US diplomat, who landed in the Red Sea city of Jeddah in the afternoon, also met Saudi King Abdullah a day after hosting urgent talks in Paris with the Saudi, Jordanian and UAE foreign ministers on the widening crisis in Iraq and Syria.

King Abdullah has consistently called for greater US military support for the Syrian rebels, whom the Sunni Gulf kingdom has long backed.

Following several signals in recent weeks by US President Barack Obama's administration, the White House said Thursday it intends to "ramp up US support to the moderate Syrian opposition".

The request is part of a $1.5-billion Regional Stabilisation Initiative to bolster stability in Syrian neighbours Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey, and to support communities hosting refugees.

I don’t even understand what he’s saying anymore. He’s all over the map and not making any sense. He just spouts bromides and words that no one believes anymore.

not making any sense

OB, those were my thoughts exactly. How do Obama and Kerry and crowd think they even know who the "moderates rebels" are, or why they should be expected to stay moderate over the weekend? This is insane.

In Clinton speak, this is just more boob bait for us bubbas.

Of course Obama and Kerry are fully aware the Syrian Rebels and ISIS are one and the same.

Obama created and supplied the weapons to them and is supporting them

Obama just wants a creative excuse to provide cover so he can send them $500 million directly and openly.

Obama is just trying to brazen out his support of ISIS

Agree. The main objective of Obama, the Saudis, and Qataris is to replace Assad with someone who will be amenable to a pipeline that transverses Syria towards the Mediterranean and Turkey. When Assad vetoed the pipeline he signed his own political demise, as far as Obama and company were concerned. If they have to use the Sunni jihadis to get rid of Assad, then so be it.

Hey Lurch, you mean the same people beheading folks, and mass murdering in Iraq.

I believe they are already playing a role in Iraq.

This douchebag really believes Syrian rebels are nice guys.
Well, maybe they are. At least they share the body parts of the people they murder.

Guess we now know why Maliki has been acting the way he has. How in the world can any government leader trust a deal with someone who wants to arm rebels and terrorists ?

The Saudi Ambassador to Russia is reported to have told the Vladimr Putin that the Saudis would give the Russians a multi billion dollar armaments contract if they would force Assad to allow them to build a pipeline across Syria.

Putin rejected them outright as it would seriously undercut Russia’s gas and oil sales to Europe which is Russia’s economic life line at this point.

When Putin refused , the Saudi Ambassador reportedly told Putin he a 10,000 jihadi at his disposal that he could release against Russia and Assad and would do so if Putin did not cave on the Syrian pipeline for the Saudis and Qatar .

Looks like those reports are credible and the Jihadi have been released.

Look for Russia to help pound the ISIS insurgents into the ground and freeze the United Sates out of any future involvement with Iraq.

Thanks very much for the info. I read a couple of days ago that Putin initiated some talks with the Saudis, possibly to discuss how to resolve the Syrian situation. Also, during the Olympics in Sochi, he met with some Saudi representatives.
