On behalf of the American people, Michelle and I extend our best wishes to Muslim communities here in the United States and around the world on the beginning of the blessed month of Ramadan.
A time for self-reflection and devotion through prayer and fasting, Ramadan is also an occasion when Muslims around the world reaffirm their commitment to helping the less fortunate, including those struggling because of economic hardship and inequality. Here in the United States, we are grateful to the many Muslim American organizations, individuals, and businesses that are devoted to creating opportunity for all by working to reduce income inequality and poverty, not only through their charitable efforts, but also through their initiatives to empower students, workers and families with the education, skills and health care they deserve.
Ramadan also reminds us of our shared responsibility to treat others as we wish to be treated ourselves and the basic principles that bind people of different faiths together: a yearning for peace, justice, and equality. At a moment when too many people around the world continue to suffer from senseless conflict and violence, this sacred time reminds us of our common obligations to pursue justice and peace and to uphold the dignity of every human being.
As Ive done every year as President, I look forward to welcoming Muslim Americans from across the United States to the White House for an iftar dinner. It will be another opportunity for me to convey Americas appreciation for the contributions of Muslim Americans to our country and to wish Muslims around the world a month blessed with the joys of family, community, peace and understanding. Ramadan Kareem.
well, here’s a long-distance dedication to all those who celebrate rama-lama-dan-whatever:
Choke on your lying tongue.
(and to think USA elected him! we are in deeep deep deep dooooooodooooooo!)
Kareem Abdul Jabbar to you too Barry!
Well isn’t that nice. The HMIC (Head Muzzie in Charge) is wishing us an happy Rama Lama Ding Dong.
Well, Allah FUBAR back atcha there B. Hussein.
“Ramadan also reminds us of our shared responsibility to treat others as we wish to be treated ourselves”
I am so glad that all Muslims in the United States are speaking out about the atrocities and beheadings in the middle east and about the horrible treatment of Christians and the disturbing treatment of women. /SSSSSSSSS
I’m going to have a bacon-fest!
None of our real presidents in the past recognized Ramadan. Only after these insane pagan cultists murdered thousands of Americans did we have to listen to our president venerate their vicious faith in conquest by the sword. Sickening.
He’s much more forceful in talking against the GOP than he is in talking against the Islamist armies in their so-called “holy season”.
Where is Code Pink today?
Where is Red Cross/Red Crescent?
Where is Amnesty Internationale?
Why no outrage over the warcrimes?
That Islamic Lunar calendar is really messed up. I know the 1973 Yom Kippur War is called the Ramadan War by the Arabs because the war occurred during the month of Ramadan. So the same month can fall from during any time during the Solar Year. Glad I am not using that calendar to plant crops or any other activity dependent on the true season.
I wish a happy Ram A Dan to all the world's 9th Century knuckldragging pig fornicators!
My contribution to the season will be to forestall sawing off the heads of those who disagree with me. If you are a woman, then stoning, mutilation, and crucifixion are still in play; so don’t get uppity.
To the Muslims of the world, ram your Ramadan where the sun don’t shine!
I missed the pResident’s message to all Christians last year regarding the Blessed Day of Christ’s Birth and the Blessed Day of Christ’s Resurrection at Easter. Could someone please post it again so I could compare the Christian and Muslim messages.
“...treat others as we wish to be treated ourselves”
Obama wants to be treated like dirt then by that logic.
We join the millions of the world’s muslime as they solemnly renew their commitment to mayhem, murder, and stone-age savagery through fasting and introspection, with an occasional beheading or child rape thrown in to keep things exciting.
It will be another opportunity for me to convey Americas appreciation for the contributions of Muslim Americans to our country
You keep saying that. How about an example? One in which the blood of Americans is not shed?
