Huge Crowd Turns Out to Welcome World Cup Biter Luis Suarez Home (Including Uruguay President)

Suarez, who has been banned from all soccer activities for four months, missed the adoring crowd after his private flight home from Brazil was delayed.

Luis Suarez may have been banned from the World Cup but Uruguayans don’t seem to mind - in fact he’s being hailed a national hero.

Suarez won’t be on the pitch when his home country takes on Colombia Saturday in the knockout round, but it seems his sacrificial bite was enough to earn him an increased celebrity status.

“With the world against him, we want him to know that Uruguayans are for him,” student, Clara Bragard, told reporters.

Following the bite seen ‘round the world, FIFA slammed the striker with a four month, nine international game ban and ordered him to stay away from any soccer activity at the World Cup.

Over one thousand fans eagerly awaited his arrival at Carrassco International Airport in Montevideo Thursday night, including Uruguay's president Jose Mujica.

“I came to encourage Suarez because Suarez is the God of the national team,” said Lucia Romanello while waiting for his arrival, draped in a Uruguayan flag. “He gives his soul to the team.”

The president and Suarez’s supporters didn’t catch a glimpse of soccer’s most infamous biter after his private flight home was delayed.

Upon getting word that Suarez’s flight was delayed, the president made a quick exit.

Suarez did not arrive until around 5 a.m. and left the airport without stopping to speak to the press.

Many in the small South American country are accusing FIFA of unfair punishment of Suarez, claiming the federation is paving the way for larger nations at the Cup.

After they welcome Suarez, they can embrace their status as failures at the 2014 World Cup (losing 0-2 at this moment).

So I guess those signs they’re holding saying “Luis Bites” are really meant as a compliment.

The rules should be 3 bites and you’re out. He’s done that or more. No, in fact, there shouldn’t be any biting allowed. Two year olds bite. The widdle immature baby should have been kicked out of soccer long before this.

He doesn't just bite. He's an all-around nasty player:

Luis Suarez a compilation of his behaviour.

Well I can’t really blame him, who doesn’t like a bite of Italian every once in a while?

The Uruguayan Sports DNA has a tad Cannibalism built into their society.. Think uruguayan national Rugby team 1972 and the Book/Movie ALIVE..

Suarez may very well be responsible for Uruguay's loss to Colombia today. They needed him and his complete asinine, infantile and bizarre behavior made his presence impossible to accept.

And truthfully.....enough with overgrown infants in sports.

Somewhere I bet there’s a guy or gal lurking with a baseball bat ready to do some serious surgery on his teeth.

I just watched that video and what really struck me was the “pansy-like” reactions of the other players. This punk kid (Luis Suarez) wouldn’t last 10 minutes in a U.S. professional sport (i.e. NHL, NFL). He would be picking his teeth off the field (or rink).

"Pansy" to you, maybe. If you retaliate, you get a red card and get suspended for the next match. Them's the rules.

If they offend your delicate sensibilities, well, tough. The Italian players on the field reacted more intelligently than you would have.

I agree but they hesitate to retaliate in fear of being red-carded. It’s always the retaliation that the ref sees.
