I didn’t see how long O’bozo thought the leave should be. I’m thinking 5 years or until the rugrats are in kindergarten.

yeah, that’s the ticket!

No = 56%

Why should I have to pay just because someone wanted to make whoopy? That takes away from everyone else at the workplace from getting a pay raise and for their customers having to pay more for purchased items to help cover someone who is home eating bonbons between diaper changes.

someone wanted to make whoopy? [...] home eating bonbons between diaper changes.

We can make the economic and ethical case against this requirement without denigrating motherhood. Without motherhood, none of us would be here.

Modern womyn don’t need baby daddies anymore, only sperm donors from those eevil men. Big daddie gov will take care of all of their needs, from childcare, to college, to affirmative job placement, and make those eevil males pay dearly.

And millenial women wonder why young men refuse to have anything to do with them, and would rather play video games and ride skateboards instead.

It’s the FMLA and that is unpaid leave for mothers or fathers (maternity-wise) and if I’m not mistaken, can last up to 6 months. Plus provisions for family caretaking.

If a woman works for a company that offers Short Term Disability (STD) coverage, and just about everyone I’ve worked for in the last 20 years does, in most cases she is covered up to I believe 6 weeks after delivery, more if her doctor puts her on disability prior to delivery due to a medical condition associated with the pregnancy. That STD may not cover 100% of her salary but it often covers 60% to 80%. And many companies will allow her and other workers out on STD to use time in their PTO bank to cover the difference.

In addition if she works for a company subject to FMLA (50 or more employees), she has job protection if she’s met the 12 month waiting period. FMLA however is unpaid leave, but again they can use their PTO until it is exhausted.

What he is most likely proposing is a statutory maternity leave and pay like they have in the UK. In the UK leave is 39 weeks paid and up to 52 weeks, the remainder unpaid.

https://www.gov.uk/maternity-pay-leave/pay

The employer pays it but then they can claim a tax credit for up to 92% (103% for small companies). But everyone is entitled to it (and paternity leave) even if they work part time or for a small employer. If the employer is small and can’t afford it, they can file a claim for relief and then the government I believe pays it directly.

NO, the issue is free and voluntary associations between consenting adults. If you and your employer come to some such arrangement without government guns pointed at anybody’s heads, go for it. If it is fascist orders from Washington, absolutely not.
