Word For The Day, Monday, 6/3/14

;

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

rident; adj. laughing; smiling; cheerful.

He flashed her a smile, but she didn't miss the fact that this rident expression did nothing to alter the bleakness in his eyes.

-- Elizabeth George, Deception on His Mind , 1997

Hetty was radiant and rident . It was quite like an evening at home at Oakhurst. Never for months past, never since that fatal cruel day, that no one spoke of, had they spent an evening so delightful.

-- William Makepeace Thackeray, The Virginians , 1857–1859

Origin:

Rident came to English in the early 1600s from the Latin rīdēre meaning "to laugh."

Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Good Morning Class. Welcome to School!

Here is my example with WFTD.

I am pining for the day when Trey Gowdy makes Lois Lerner's rident expression turn into a rictus. No pushing at the door please!

The media and the politicians in DC are often quite rident in their assessment of America as a whole, but those of us paying attention don’t see through such rose-colored glasses; a storm is brewing.

How is it that when a rident photo of a person with family will always result in someone else not pointing out that cheerful smile, but instead the prodigious belly?

Hillary, who’s wealthy but strident
Fakes poverty, fakes being rident
Her actions seem odd
‘cause she thinks she’s a god
Cruel and vengeful, she sharpens her trident

In dealing with the Socialist left in this nation, it is much better to have a rident attitude in dealing with them since we are on the Right.

Hobby Lobby wins! Like I said, there is no way that this was the “least restrictive means” to accomplish the gov’t’s goal.

When the left can accomplish their STATED goals with means other than those that result in them attaining more control over your life,

you have de facto proof that control was the goal, not the stated goal.

xshub has been emailing me nonstop about the decision, synopsizing it for me bc I have not had time to follow it. He said Obama will prob have the gov’t pay for HL employees. He’s bound to have some sort of reaction.

Obamacare will provide the authority, that’s part of the evil of it. xshub said he thinks conservatives are over-reading the result here, that it’s based strictly on RFRA and there is no 1st amdt holding, that it’s pretty narrow, but a win is a win.

I saw a post on another forum by a hobby lobby employee stating that from actually job application process you are aware of the values and ideals of the company and this person felt that if you didn’t want to abide by their rules you didn’t have to work there! I just stunned by the ruling - I guess I figured we would get hit again by the turncoat justice!
