Mick Jagger: Monty Python 'are wrinkly old men trying to relive their youth'
CNN ^ | 6/30/14 | Peter Wilkinson

Posted on 07/01/2014 12:30:42 PM PDT by jimbo123

Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger poked fun at the Monty Python stars on Monday ahead of the comedy troupe's reunion concerts this week as "a bunch of wrinkly old men trying to relive their youth and make a load of money."

Appearing in a video shown at the Monty Python Live (mostly) news conference at a central London theater, Jagger is asked by his assistant if he wants tickets for the shows. The singer, who is watching the World Cup football on TV with bandmate Charlie Watts, replies: "Who wants to see that again? It was funny in the 60s."

He adds: "The best one died years ago. Maybe back in the 70s it was fantastic -- it was the funniest thing. We've seen it all before. I mean they've put it all up on YouTube."

And he doesn’t see the irony in his statement at all, does he?

Mick probably doesn’t like the Python lads because they’re all a bunch of flaming liberals.

I have a feeling this is being done to pay for Cleese’s fourth or five or sixth divorce to an American woman. Will he ever learn?

Does that mean they brought Graham Chapman along?

He's clearly making fun of himself and the Rolling Stones. The same could be said about them. Jagger always had a sense of humor and never took himself too seriously.

To everyone who thinks Jagger is serious about this -- he made the statement in a video produced FOR the Python event. He clearly is joking and making fun of himself.

I told a relative that I thought Jagger was one of the ugliest men alive. She said maybe so, but he was nice-looking when he was younger.

So I find this pic of a young Mick Jagger and he was just as ugly then as he is now, just minus the wrinkles, bags, droops and wear and tear from hard livin'.

The pothead calling the kettles black, LOL.

It was a promotion and Mick is pretty clearly making fun of the Stones as well as Monty Python. I saw the Stones in 2006 when I got some excellent seats for half price. They clearly still enjoyed what they do and it was a very good show. As long as Python, the Stones, or whoever are putting on a good show and giving folks their money’s worth then I say go for it.

Ha! You know your British well!

Hope the Python show goes well tonight. All very nostalgic. Amazed that it’s happening at all. Getting them all together in a room was a real challenge until recently. They had so many individual projects on the go.

I didn't and don't equate his music with his looks. He's an accomplished artiste in his field...good for him.

BTW, I'd pay ANYTHING to see the Pythons if they gave a final tour in the U.S.

“BTW, I’d pay ANYTHING to see the Pythons if they gave a final tour in the U.S.”

Sadly, that looks very unlikely. It’s been hard enough to convince them to do the London shows. The last show at the 02 is already being billed as Python’s last ever live performance.

Can’t imagine Michael Palin or Terry Jones wanting to do another American tour, maybe a one off performance if the London shows do well though? Never say never.

They didn’t pay the producer of Monty Python and the holy Grail his share of the royalties from Spamalot. He took them to court and won. They appealed and appealed, losing every time and also refusing several offers by him to settle the suit.

In the end, between the back royalties, their legal bills and his (Britain is loser pays) they apparently lost more money on Spamalot than they made and are having to do this recoup their losses.

Ironically, Cleese has been the most adamant over the years about not doing a reunion, but the producer said he thinks Cleese and Idol were the ones who kept pushing the others not to settle and got them into their financial jam.

Well, it was a self depreciating promo for the Python which I thought actually showed some character. But I will observe that Jagger looks an awful lot like Don Knotts (with apologies to Mr. Knotts).

Perhaps character and Jagger are infrequent companions but I though he showed same on the Stones recent tour in Israel.
