Remeniscient of Les Stroud “Survivorman” using this identical trap on one of his shows to totally squish a ratty looking ground squirrel. Can you say overkill? He then proceeded to hang it over a fire and try to scorch the hair off it. One of the funniest and grossest of his shows. :-)

I could never get those things to work unless I shot the little bugger first and then threw him in there. Which sort of misses the point of the whole thing, I guess, unless you’re after squirrel pancakes.

Would the trap work if I use a bag of Skittles, and bottle of Robitussin and a Mountain Dew for bait? ;-)

Excellent choice. The several variations shown provide lots of room for imagining variations for bigger stuff, and for smarter stuff.

Sharp pointy parts might work better for bear than a flat surface. Patchouli-flavored bait might work better for liberals. Etc., etc.

Fun stuff.

Bushcraft has been helping me get my mind off politics (when I need to do so) for several years now. One of the reasons (but not the only one) is that I think it comforting to know that the government can only take so much from you, and knowledge is one of those things. In particular, having this sort of knowledge makes a person exceedingly difficult for a government to control, unlike someone who depends of the grocery store for all their food.

Schwarzenegger used one in Predator, IIRC.
