The Navy has its first female four-star admiral.
She is Michelle Janine Howard, promoted on Tuesday to the services highest rank. [ ]
She will serve as the vice chief of naval operations, which makes her the No. 2 admiral in the Navy behind Adm. Jonathan Greenert, the chief of naval operations.

Let me guess.
Don’t be so crass.
Looks to be a 3’fer.....
African American...What a surprise!!
Are you sure you didn’t look? ;-)
Her promotions came pretty fast when Obama showed up
Hopefully it is transgendered too!
Among her many distinctions, Howard in 1999 became the first African-American woman to command a Navy ship.
Oh great. Another Affirmative Action appointee. Now if she’s only a lesbo, that will make it a trifecta.
She may have balls.
I think that is probably a good bet, actually.
Yuh know, I take my comment back.
She’s actually quite accomplished, has lineage and is also married to a Marine(ret).
I won’t ask the AM to pull my post either.
I still haven’t looked.
Come on Guys lay off, she actually earned her way to the top and did not demand promotions because she was a Women, I remember her when I was in and truth be told she seemed very Conservative as quite as it was kept. Now i can speak on many others Women in the Officer’s Corp, but I can tell you she earned hers thru hard work unlike many other Politically Correct Chicksh!t Officers.
Bet she can’t swim.
I can't say that she has command presence..but heck, neither does that ass wipe Martin Dempsey..
Oh wait, THAT'S Obama. As for her, umm...
She went fro commander to 4 star admiral in 15 years. That tells me the promotions boards are more interested in advancing a minority than finding qualified candidates.
What do all the awards she has mean then?
She has mo fleet experience?
Honest question. I dont know anything.
Just did a quick fly-by on wiki and a few articles.
Looked like she accomplished.
Again, whudduh I know?
Thanks - hope you’re right! Hard to imagine anyone “conservative” getting top rank in this administration’s military.
I apologized after a quick read of her history and am strong enough to leave my error for y’all to make fun of.
Always trust your word.
Hey, is there a way to get more heads up on when you are on media?
I usually see an announcement and don’t have enough time to get it or record it.
Thnx in advance. ..
Obama is the person who nominated her for the position. It’s pure politics. No that she’s not capable...but I’m betting she stomped on a whole bunch of ladies when Obama called.
Congrats to Michelle Janine Howard.
When will we get over noticing the gender and/or race of people who succeed? I can’t remember the last time I thought “I can’t believe that *woman/black/asian* got promoted to that level”. I’m pretty sure it was in the ‘70s. In the ‘80s there were some who shouldn’t have been promoted on qualifications (they weren’t allowed to climb the ladder in the 60s/70s and didn’t have the experience) but we had quotas.
These days we may or may not still have quotas but those getting promoted have had opportunity to compete their entire career and they deserve what they’ve got and shouldn’t have anyone questioning how they got there. They may have an edge up over me (an old white male) because of their race/gender, but they deserve the position every bit as much as an equivalent old white male. I can’t believe some people (mostly liberals) are still discrediting them by suggesting that they may be less deserving but that it’s important to get an non-white/non-male into that position.
p.s. If the writer’s goal is to encourage female, or african-american readers, I’d recommend replacing “first female” with “a” in the title. Everything else in the article should be very encouraging to a female or african-american girl. In fact, “first” sounds more scary (will there be another? it must be a Herculean effort.)
Feminization of the military just continues!!!
Wonder how our veterans feel???
From what I understand, an officer can do that by remaining apolitical as they are all actually required to do.
When racial and sexual quotas that destroy the more qualified are no longer invoked in order to promote lesser qualified people purely for race and sex politics that the Democrat party thrives on exploiting for their plantation-mindset rape of the people they claim to be helping.
Crawl back to DU, troll.
Active Duty ping.
Wow. A real Chester Nimitz, Raymond Spruance and William Halsey all rolled into one admiral!
David Petraeus went from Lieutenant Colonel to four stars in about the same time. What minority slot was he filling?
Liberal ass kisser. Not you, Petraeus.
I thought that Grace Hopper was the first 4 star admiral, but I could be wrong.
If she earned her position and is good at her job then more power to her.
However, I have run across several minority high ranking officers who would fail a 4th grade English course (and I am not exaggerating). So don’t tell me there are no quotas in the military.
Actually what is says is that she had a mentor some where
near the top. Promotions up through 1 star are usually dependent on performance. Above that level, whom you were or are connected with carries a lot of weight with selection boards. If I remember correctly, who ever is considered for promotion to 3 & 4 stars in any service is discussed in the White House.
Now that is a mystery, but one thing I do know is I had the chance to meet her, when I was station in Norfolk and she was a no sense officer and didn’t see the enlisted person under her as a path to promotion and nothing else. She gets my respect because she actually earned it and did not demanded it like many of the ring knockers.
“African American...What a surprise!!”
In this case, that begins with an ‘N...’, same as for the imposter in chief...
“She may have balls.”
Whether she does or does not, we know for sure the CIC does not.
Who are “we”? It’s the media that “noticed” such things.
I take it you meant “no-nonsense”.
Yes I did.
She has long been a favorite of the Black Congressional Caucus. Need not say any more.
I disagree. Politicking really starts at the O-4 level. Not so much in the Coast Guard because of its small officer corps but I still did see some dirtbags get promoted over competent officers.
Aye, sir! Albedo checks!
