Thanks - hope you’re right! Hard to imagine anyone “conservative” getting top rank in this administration’s military.

Thnx.

I apologized after a quick read of her history and am strong enough to leave my error for y’all to make fun of.

Always trust your word.

Thnx

Hey, is there a way to get more heads up on when you are on media?

I usually see an announcement and don’t have enough time to get it or record it.

Thnx in advance. ..

So how did she get nominated by Obama if she’s conservative?

Obama is the person who nominated her for the position. It’s pure politics. No that she’s not capable...but I’m betting she stomped on a whole bunch of ladies when Obama called.

Congrats to Michelle Janine Howard.

When will we get over noticing the gender and/or race of people who succeed? I can’t remember the last time I thought “I can’t believe that *woman/black/asian* got promoted to that level”. I’m pretty sure it was in the ‘70s. In the ‘80s there were some who shouldn’t have been promoted on qualifications (they weren’t allowed to climb the ladder in the 60s/70s and didn’t have the experience) but we had quotas.

These days we may or may not still have quotas but those getting promoted have had opportunity to compete their entire career and they deserve what they’ve got and shouldn’t have anyone questioning how they got there. They may have an edge up over me (an old white male) because of their race/gender, but they deserve the position every bit as much as an equivalent old white male. I can’t believe some people (mostly liberals) are still discrediting them by suggesting that they may be less deserving but that it’s important to get an non-white/non-male into that position.

p.s. If the writer’s goal is to encourage female, or african-american readers, I’d recommend replacing “first female” with “a” in the title. Everything else in the article should be very encouraging to a female or african-american girl. In fact, “first” sounds more scary (will there be another? it must be a Herculean effort.)

So how did she get nominated by Obama if she’s conservative?

From what I understand, an officer can do that by remaining apolitical as they are all actually required to do.

When racial and sexual quotas that destroy the more qualified are no longer invoked in order to promote lesser qualified people purely for race and sex politics that the Democrat party thrives on exploiting for their plantation-mindset rape of the people they claim to be helping.

Crawl back to DU, troll.

That tells me the promotions boards are more interested in advancing a minority than finding qualified candidates.

David Petraeus went from Lieutenant Colonel to four stars in about the same time. What minority slot was he filling?

I thought that Grace Hopper was the first 4 star admiral, but I could be wrong.

If she earned her position and is good at her job then more power to her.

However, I have run across several minority high ranking officers who would fail a 4th grade English course (and I am not exaggerating). So don’t tell me there are no quotas in the military.

Actually what is says is that she had a mentor some where
near the top. Promotions up through 1 star are usually dependent on performance. Above that level, whom you were or are connected with carries a lot of weight with selection boards. If I remember correctly, who ever is considered for promotion to 3 & 4 stars in any service is discussed in the White House.

Now that is a mystery, but one thing I do know is I had the chance to meet her, when I was station in Norfolk and she was a no sense officer and didn’t see the enlisted person under her as a path to promotion and nothing else. She gets my respect because she actually earned it and did not demanded it like many of the ring knockers.
